    Your Opportunity

    Stantec’s thriving Oregon and Washington environmental services and brownfield revitalization practices are looking for an Environmental Scientist, Geologist, or Engineer to join our team. Our team helps communities identify and address barriers to bring vacant and underutilized properties (brownfields) back into healthy and productive use. We are seeking an entry level team member with up to five years of education and/or experience in the environmental field and a strong interest in environmental sampling, cleanup, and community revitalization. This team member will be primarily focused on environmental due diligence and brownfield revitalization work and will also have opportunities to work with Stantec’s broader Environmental Services team including projects involving complex assessment and remediation, resiliency, GIS and other scientific disciplines.

    This is an opportunity to start or enhance your environmental career supported by a team of seasoned and dedicated environmental professionals. This position offers a chance to build fundamental environmental industry skills in environmental analysis, sampling, risk assessment, and cleanup; client communication; and project management. There will also be opportunities to support our team of grant writers and planners helping communities secure funding to address environmental challenges and enhance livability.

    This position entails approximately 55% office work and 45% field work. Office work will include writing Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessment reports, work plans, and other documents, and analysis of data collected in the field to evaluate potential risks to human health and the environment. Field work will include sampling and contractor oversight with attention to detail and a focus on safety and quality. Field work will be mostly in Oregon and Washington but may include occasional assignments in other western states and occasional multi-day trips. Team members will provide training and support on safe and high-quality field work methods and practices. Solid writing and analytical skills are needed, as is the ability to communicate effectively with team members in the office and in the field.

    Your Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct Phase I Environmental Site Assessments including research of environmental and historical records, site observations, and report writing.
    • Field work including but not limited to:

    Work planning, scheduling, health and safety planning.

    Reading and following written work plans and Health and Safety Plans.

    Environmental sampling including soil, groundwater, soil gas, and indoor air.

    Overseeing field contractors (drillers, etc.).

    Collecting and recording field observations and field measurements.

    Managing sampling documents and coordinating with laboratories.

    Overseeing environmental cleanup activities.

    • Office-based work including but not limited to:

    Coordination with project managers to maintain project scope, schedule, and budget.

    Writing technical work plans, reports, and health and safety plans.

    Team support including proofreading documents, creating/editing data tables in MS Excel,

    Qualifications

    Your Capabilities

    • Willing and motivated to learn.
    • Strong research, analysis, and writing skills.
    • Familiarity with MS Office software.
    • GIS experience a plus, but not required.
    • Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.
    • Prior to employment, this position will require the successful passing of a pre-employment physical screen.

    Education and Experience

    Two to five years of experience in the environmental field, which may be a combination of education and work experience. Relevant educational background that applies to the desired experience includes a bachelor’s degree or higher in geology, environmental science, engineering or similar field.

    Majority of time spent in office environment with prolonged sitting and computer work, or combination of office and field. Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather, walking in rough terrain on uneven surfaces, and lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.

    • $30.14 Per Hour - $43.70 Per Hour Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in WA

    The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.

    Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.

    • Washington state employees are eligible to accrue 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked except for Seattle employees who accrue sick leave in accordance with the city’s paid sick leave law.
