  • Andrews Engineering, Inc. seeks a full time field geologist for the Springfield, IL office.

    This position provides field support to various projects within the company that require characterization of subsurface soils, local geologic and hydrogeologic conditions. Primary duties include: environmental field investigations, field classification of soil and rock, oversight of groundwater monitoring, well installation and other subsurface detection devices, aquifer testing and operation and maintenance of engineering and environmental monitoring programs. Other duties may include collecting environmental samples (e.g. groundwater, soil, soil vapor, surface water), preparation of cross sections, geologic maps, writing report or narrative of findings, interpreting and analyzing field data and application of environmental rules, regulations, or ordinances.

    Professional goal for this position is to receive training toward the Professional Geologist licensing requirements.

    Well-qualified candidates will possess education, training or experience with field investigation methods, field planning, drilling, and preparation of technical reports. Experience operating a GeoProbe or similar device is a plus.

    EDUCATION: Candidate should hold a BS in Geology/Hydrogeology or related degree. Candidate should possess course work in subsurface investigations, soil classification, aquifer testing methods, groundwater movement, and contaminated media assessments. Strong writing and communication skills are necessary.

    MINIMUM SALARY: $50,000.00 Salary commensurate with relevant experience/education.

    This position requires approximately 50-75 percent fieldwork and/or travel typically within 200 miles of the office location. Project dependent, lengthy overnight stays may be necessary.

    Physical Demands: Position may require sitting or standing for long periods, squatting, bending, the use of machinery and a variety tools and lifting up to 50 pounds.

    Job assignments may include work on waste-disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials.

    Proficient with Microsoft Office-based software programs (Word, Excel) and specific hydrogeologic programs.

    OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER Certification is desired however, safety training will be provided before being assigned to work on these sites.
