Transit Valley Country Club is an 18-hole course located in a suburb of Buffalo, NY. A family club with an emphasis on work life balance at the turf care facility while still improving and providing excellent conditions for our membership. We had a new irrigation system installed in 2023 and are currently implementing Master Plan renovations in-house. We are seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to join our team as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. The successful candidate will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent to ensure the highest standards of maintenance and operation of our golf course facilities.

Responsibilities

1. Assist in planning, organizing, and supervising the maintenance of the golf course, including greens, fairways, tees, and bunkers.
2. Perform routine maintenance tasks such as mowing, watering, fertilizing, and aerating turf.
3. Supervise and participate in pesticide and fertilizer applications, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
4. Assist in managing irrigation systems, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring proper water management practices.
5. Oversee the maintenance and repair of equipment, ensuring proper functioning and safety standards.
6. Train and supervise a team of grounds maintenance staff, providing guidance and support as needed.
7. Assist in developing and implementing turf management programs to enhance playing conditions and overall course aesthetics.
8. Monitor turf health and pest/disease activity, implementing appropriate control measures, as necessary.
9. Collaborate with the Golf Course Superintendent to develop and manage operating budgets, track expenses, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
10. Ensure compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to golf course maintenance and environmental stewardship.

Requirements

Qualifications

1. 2–4-year degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field preferred.
2. Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in golf course maintenance, with previous supervisory experience preferred.
3. Strong knowledge of turfgrass management practices, irrigation systems, and equipment operation.
4. Pesticide applicator's license or ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire.
5. Excellent leadership, communication, and people skills.
6. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
7. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
8. Physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.

Salary: $45,000-$55,000 DOE
