Golf Superintendent is responsible for overall maintenance and care of the golf course, including turf/grass management, irrigation, and chemical applications (e.g., fertilizer, pesticides) to ensure quality playing conditions. Oversees continued development of golf course during golf season to improve playing conditions and maintenance of course during off-season. Being a Golf Superintendent manage purchasing, replenishment, and inventory of all materials, supplies, and equipment used to maintain golf course. Liaises with the Head Golf Professional on any issues related to golf course operations and maintenance. Additionally, Golf Superintendent typically requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Typically reports to a golf course general manager. The Golf Superintendent manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Golf Superintendent typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     The Superintendent supervises site-based construction operations for assigned projects. He shares responsibility with the rest of the project team for the on-time, satisfactory completion of the project and for keeping costs at or under budget.

    • Participate in periodic project review meetings if asked by the Project manager.
    • Responsible for on-budget implementation of assigned projects.
    • Immediately identify, quantify, record, and report all changes (Change Orders) in the scope of the project.
    • Responsible for on-time completion of assigned projects, with all safety requirements and quality standards met.
    • Understand the detailed project schedule and provide day-to-day monitoring of the progress vs. schedule.
    • Communicates daily with field employees and the Project Manager regarding project progress and general issues; communicates important or emergency issues to the Director of Operations immediately.
    • Manages the labor pool assigned to the project at or under budget.
    • Provides day-to-day supervision of the quality of the work of crew members.
    • Provide ongoing training to crew members as required to complete all assigned tasks.
    • Ensures that required field reports are submitted accurately from each of his jobs by the established deadlines.
    • Works with the Operations Manager on the deployment of field labor.
    • Works with the Project Manager and the Operations Manager to plan the amounts and delivery dates of materials for the project.
    • Requests project materials on an as-needed basis from the Operations Manager with at least 48 hours advance notice.
    • Monitors the use of equipment at job sites and informs the Operations Manager concerning retrieval of the equipment when no longer in use.
    • Manages the amount of material at the job site to have as little as is practical without disrupting the efficient progress of the project and ensures that the Operations Manager is informed of surplus and unused materials.
    • Maintains the job site inventory in a neat and orderly manner.
    • Inspects equipment assigned to the job site and rejects defective equipment.
    • Acts as the first point of contact for the owner and subcontractors.
    • Responsible for the safe implementation of all project activities and that the project conforms to all safety rules and regulations of Kenpat, OSHA, or any other applicable laws and regulations.
    • Maintains a clean and safe worksite.
    • Implements and manages required job-site safety program and conducts weekly “toolbox talks”.
    • Completes accident reports immediately, completely, and accurately.
    • Ensures that punch list items and quality issues are addressed and managed effectively to expedite collection of retainage.
    • Maintains friendly, cooperative relationships with the general contractor, subcontractors, engineers, architects, and owners.
    • Supervises apprentices and assigns tasks, when possible, to assist them in learning the trade.

    Subordinates

    The Superintendent supervises and directs field labor personnel assigned to his project.

    Requirements

    1. High school certificate

    2. 3 years of experience in commercial contracting project supervision

    3. 5 years of construction field experience

    4. Willingness to “roll up his sleeves” and do what is necessary to get the job done.

    5. Honesty, integrity and a strong desire to succeed.

    6. Excellent organizational and communication skills.

    7. Ability to deal tactfully in human issues with colleagues.

    8. Ability to create and maintain cooperative team-building relationships.

    9. Ability to identify strengths and weaknesses in others and shift responsibilities to take advantage of those strengths.

    10. Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
