Government Affairs Manager implements strategic plans and oversees engagement objectives to develop and maintain productive relations with all levels of government authorities that will support and enhance the businesses' goals. Manages teams that build relationships and liaise with government entities(federal, state, provincial, or local) that regulate or influence business activities. Being a Government Affairs Manager performs ongoing monitoring and analysis of proposed legislation, emerging issues, and trends to determine the potential impact on the organization. Collaborates with industry groups and organizations with complementary objectives to achieve objectives. Additionally, Government Affairs Manager creates communication vehicles and delivers messaging to inform and support business leaders. Requires a bachelor's degree in public policy, public administration, business or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Government Affairs Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Government Affairs Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required. We will empower you to lead, develop deep expertise, and find new approaches to solving the toughest challenges.   POSITION SUMMARY: Help develop and coordinate grassroots legislative and political activities in the five Western states: Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, and Utah.   WHAT YOU’LL DO: Build and maintain relationships with members of Congress and their regional and Hill staffs. Strengthen relationships with state, regional, and local chambers. Cultivate grasstops relationships. Activate Chamber membership on key policy issues. Bolster advocacy programs through government affairs training programs. Perform candidate and issue research. Recommend candidates for political endorsements and support endorsed candidates. Represent the Chamber at events. Contribute to the development of grassroots legislative strategies and identify emerging issues. Conduct outreach to Chamber members to enhance the legislative agenda and provide membership services. Carry out targeted outreach beyond the Chamber’s membership. Build and maintain media relationships. Manage and maintain social media messaging. Work with other regional staff to conduct nationwide programming. Develop and maintain strong relationships with staff in Government Affairs and other departments.   WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED (REQUIREMENTS): Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years’ experience working in a congressional office, lobbying, working on a campaign, or engaging in a similar environment. Knowledge of key issues affecting the business community. Political or legislative connections in one or more of the Western states.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Competent public speaker.
