Logistics Management Specialist (Assistant Center Manager)

  • Duties

    • Establishes priorities, allocates resources, and supervises the mobilization, demobilization, and reassignment of wildland fire suppression resources necessary to support current and anticipated initial attack and logistical support.
    • Monitors incident and administrative intelligence (e.g., fuels, weather, resource status, and reporting) to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of dispatch center decisions.
    • Provides technical and operational direction to employees on day-to-day basis. Applies sound personnel management skills to include coaching, training, and motivation. Instructs crewmembers in specific task and techniques.
    • Effectively communicates orally with a wide variety of Federal, State, and local agencies to negotiate, reach concurrence, and maintain an effective working relationship with cooperators.

    • I have held or currently hold the NWCG qualification Expanded Dispatch Support Dispatcher (EDSD) or higher. I will provide a copy of my IQCS master record or equivalent documentation as instructed in the vacancy announcement.
    This position is subject to the lnteragency Fire Program (IFPM) Standard and Guide selective placement factors for a Assistant Center Manager. This position requires the above qualification. Currency not required.

    At the GS-09 Level: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to a GS-07 in the federal service. Specialized experience is further defined as: Experience analyzing and applying fire management strategies; mobilization and dispatch coordination; and equipment development and deployment using fire communication systems in a dispatch center; OR have completed a master`s or equivalent graduate degree; OR have 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related; OR I have an equivalent combination of the specialized experience and education described above. I will provide a copy of my college transcript.

    Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.

    This is a SECONDARY/Administrative fire position under the special retirement provisions of 5 U.S.C. 8336(c) (CSRS) and 5 U.S.C. 8412(d) (FERS). While secondary positions are not subject to the maximum entry age (MEA) policy, the selectee must have prior service in a primary position and meet the transfer requirement for movement from a primary to secondary position to be eligible for special retirement coverage. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure this office has enough information to determine your retirement status to ensure you do not lose benefits(normally through submission of your SF-50). YOU MUST LET US KNOW IF YOU ARE CURRENTLY IN A PRIMARY POSITION.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.     Physical Demands: The work involves long hours of sitting, intense concentration, and working at peak proficiency/intensity level with irregular breaks and mealtimes.

    This position falls under the Logistics Management Series 0346. There are no Individual Occupational Requirements for this series.

    This position allows for education to be substituted for specialized experience (see qualification section for education requirements). Upon selection, official transcripts must be received prior to appointment.
