CNC Grinder
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Setup and perform complex grinding operations on ID, OD, surface grinders, honing and lapping equipment.
- Responsible for inspecting ground parts.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES OR AREAS UNDER INCUMBENTS CONTROL
Works with minimal supervision:
- Performs ID, OD, and surface grinding.
- Set-up and operate precision grinding equipment.
- Consistently work to close tolerances (typically one tenth or less) on all grinding equipment.
- Work from blueprints and/or set up sheets.
- Select proper wheels for various applications.
- Perform honing and lap operations to close tolerances (typically one tenth or less).
- Check work using precision measuring equipment, optical flats, micrometers, indicators, etc.
- Assist in training other employees.
- Perform Statistical Process Control (SPC).
- Maintain necessary records.
- Perform preventative maintenance on grinding equipment.
- Make repairs within scope of ability.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/PRIOR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Three to five years of experience working with precision grinders (Surface and O.D.), honing and lapping equipment.
- Must be familiar with both internal dimensions (ID), and outside dimensions (OD) and have worked with close tolerances.
- Must have good knowledge of shop math.
- Must be able to read blueprints.
- Must be familiar with precision measuring equipment.
U.S. Citizenship or Resident Alien (green card holder) status required to support work on government projects.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Restrictions are limited only by the individual’s inability to perform essential job duties and where an unsafe condition would result for the individual or surrounding employees.
- Required Lifting Weight: 35 lbs. Lifting Frequency: Daily
- Frequent lifting or standing for extended periods.
- Frequent lifting to 20 pounds from floor to bench level, occasional lifting to 50 pounds.
Experience
- CNC grinding experience is required.
- 5 years of machining experience
- Vast experience in metrology including calipers, micrometers, bench centers with indicators, height gages and optical comparators;
- Experience with manual machinery is preferred,
- Excellent attention to detail and willingness to approach difficult, small run projects.
- Ability to read and interpret complex drawings and work instructions.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Demonstrates use of intermediate computer operations and intermediate software packages.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Use and be familiar with assembly and measuring tools, interpret visual aids and must be able to perform simple shop math.
