About the Role:

The role of the Packaged Grocery Buyer is essential in overseeing the strategic procurement and efficient management of inventory for packaged grocery products. They are responsible for ensuring that products are purchased at competitive prices while maintaining the high-quality standards established by the co-op.

This position demands a meticulous attention to detail and the capability to arrange merchandise and create displays in a timely and efficient manner. The Packaged Grocery Buyer must also stay informed about market trends and consumer preferences to make well-informed purchasing decisions that are in line with the co-op's objectives and principles.

Apart from managing the procurement process, the Packaged Grocery Buyer works closely with the grocery team to optimize product placement and promotions, with the ultimate goal of boosting sales and improving the overall customer experience. By collaborating with the team, they contribute to enhancing the overall success of the grocery department within the co-op.

Responsibilities:

Our ideal applicant has previous retail buying experience, is a natural with numbers, has the ability to be self-motivated without direct supervision, has the patience to ensure all items are ordered on a consistent basis, and the skill to determine appropriate par levels based on product movement and existing backstock. Buying is a mix of analytical thinking and creativity.

• Provide excellent customer service as the number one priority
• Exemplifying integrity, responsibility, and excellence and adhering to all policies
• Creating an inviting packaged grocery department
• Ensuring all in-stock products/conditions meet company standards.
• Ensuring that all tools and equipment are cleaned in accordance with health department and company standards
• General merchandising and setting displays
• Maintain a clean work environment
• Receive Trucks and Orders
• Receive and store packaged grocery items in a timely manner
• Record loss and damaged goods
• Work in a team environment as a team player
• Ensure shelves and displays are full, fronted and faced
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• 3 years of experience in grocery procurement or equivalent
• Ability to manage changing priorities and to stay focused with the task at hand
• Possess a sense of urgency in the completion of tasks
• Possess excellent customer service
• Ability to take direction and follow through
• Ability to take accountability and taking ownership of your responsibilities

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

• Must have the ability to constantly lift or carry up to 50 lbs. Must also have the ability to occasionally lift or carry 51-100 lbs. with a team lift
• Must have the ability to frequently push or pull up to 15 lbs. and occasionally push or pull 16-100 lbs.
• Must be able to stand for up to 2.5hr in-between breaks
• Requires the use of both arms and both hands with full range of motion
• Must be able to occasionally use the computer for data entry and use of mouse
• Must be able to constantly walk, stand, use fine motor manipulations, grip, bend, twist, turn, and reach outward for the duration of the work shift
• Must be able to reach above chest
• Must be able to occasionally sit, squat, kneel, and climb as needed
• Must be able to frequently work with sharp tools and equipment
• Must be able to occasionally work with noise, cold, heat, wet, humid, outside, heights, and contact stress

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
