To ensure an organized and smoothly run grocery department including ordering, inventory control, and labor. To collaborate with Category Manager to achieve department goals for margin and sales and assist in the execution of promotional events. To coordinate the orderly, timely and accurate receipt of all stock except produce. To motivate staff and provide them with the tools required ensuring the highest level of service possible to the PFC shopper.
    Job Responsibilities:
    1. Customer Service
    • Ensure the highest level of service possible to PFC’s internal and external customers.
    • Ensure an organized and smoothly run grocery department including ordering, inventory control, and labor.
    • To collaborate with Category Manager to achieve department goals for margin and sales and assist in the execution of promotional events.
    • Coordinate the orderly, timely and accurate receipt of all stock except produce.
    • Motivate staff and provide them with the tools required ensuring the highest level of service possible to the PFC shopper

    2. Ordering and Pricing

    • Ensure adequate supply of products keeping out of stocks to a minimum.
    • Write and process orders for weekly deliveries as needed.
    • Coordinate returns and credit from suppliers where applicable and ensure that staff knows how to do the same.
    • Review invoices for accuracy, price changes, and product additions.
    • Ensure accurate, up-to-date price labeling and signage of department items. Verify shelf tags against POS pricing. Perform weekly shelf tags audits.
    • Communicate ordering times and deadlines to other departments when that vendor is a shared vendor.
    • Receive and process orders, checking the condition of product and invoice accuracy.
    • Coordinate returns and credit from suppliers where applicable and ensure that staff knows how to do the same.
    • Follow procedures to code and transfer invoices to accounting within established time frames
    • Communicate changes in usual delivery time to other departments when that vendor is a shared vendor.
    • Ensure displays and shelves are fully stocked, rotated, fronted, and faced. Set stocking priorities for department staff. Stock items as needed. Ensure proper product rotation as well as adherence to planograms and product allocation standards.
    • Ensure excellence in center store grocery presentation including product fronting, cleanliness of shelves, displays and coolers and appropriate signage and display construction.
    • Coordinate inter-store transfers of goods ensuring appropriate transfer paperwork are shipped and received

    3. Department Operations and Safety

    • Work with the store manager to ensure staff training for handling emergencies (shoplifters, robberies, accidents, and fire.)
    • Ensure that department work areas and aisles are clean and orderly and meet all Health Department requirements.
    • Ensure that all department equipment (including ordering equipment) is maintained in good working order. Inform store manager of equipment repair and replacement needs.
    • Work with the Category Manager to ensure proper and effective merchandising of the retail sales floor.
    • Set daily priorities for grocery assistant manager, lead clerks and clerks to ensure productive workflow.
    • Develop and revise department’s standard operating procedures as needed. Ensure that staff is aware of and trained in these procedures.
    • Coordinate with finance and store manager for quarterly inventory of grocery department stock.

    4. Personnel

    • Develop performance standards for all grocery clerks, lead clerks and assistant manager.
    • Schedule grocery and staff according to weekly labor budget and quarterly cost of labor goals.
    • Arrange for coverage of vacant shifts and fill in as needed.
    • Develop training materials and systems for all grocery clerks, lead clerks, and assistant manager.
    • Ensure on the job training for all grocery clerks, lead clerks and assistant manager. Review and initial the training checklist when employees are trained or retrained.
    • Hire qualified grocery staff within established policies.
    • Conduct evaluations of grocery assistant manager, lead clerks and clerks by following established policies and procedures.
    • Take corrective counseling measures and/or disciplinary action as needed for all grocery clerks, lead clerks, and assistant manager, according to established personnel policies.
    • Ensure that department meetings are conducted at least twice a year. Provide effective communication of operational issues.
    • Terminate department employees as necessary, following established personnel policies.

    5. Budgeting and Planning

    • Attend weekly and quarterly management team meetings/trainings.
    • Work with the store manager to establish goals for labor, sales, and inventory.
    • Work with store manager to develop annual operation budget sales projections and capital budget and equipment needs.
    • Develop annual labor budget according to established productivity, labor, and cost goals.
    • Complete timely and accurate reports

    Requirements

    Skills and Abilities

    • Minimum of one (1) year previous management experience
    • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a retail purchasing or merchandising position
    • Experience in personnel management (interviewing, hiring, training, coaching, evaluation, and discipline)
    • Proven ability to develop and implement budgets and to adhere to cost and margin requirements
    • Previous experience with ordering, pricing and inventory control
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Keen attention to detail
    • Ability to manage and motivate staff
    • Ability to plan, develop, implement and assess systems for efficient and productive operations
    • Strong communication and listening skills
    • Commitment to superior customer service and to providing the highest qualify shopping experience possible
    • Ability to work well with others in a cooperative environment where teamwork and constant communication is essential
