Groundskeeper cuts and maintains lawns and grass. Rakes leaves and cares for plants, flowers, trees, and shrubs. Being a Groundskeeper determines the appropriate plants or shrubs for walkways or garden areas. Provides grounds maintenance in all seasons. Additionally, Groundskeeper is responsible for snow and dirt removal. Keeps the grounds and environment of a facility in a clean, attractive, orderly, safe, and healthy condition. Operates light trucks and assorted power equipment. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance on gardening and grounds equipment. May require horticultural training. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Groundskeeper works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. SUMMARY
Maintains school and residential grounds by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. * Indicates the non-essential duties and responsibilities. Nothing in this job description restricts St. Labre's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.
- Mows lawns.
- Trims and edges around walks, flower beds, and walls.
- Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs.
- Sprays lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides.
- Cleans grounds, streets and sidewalks and removes litter.
- Shovels snow from walks and driveways.
- Spreads salt on public passage ways to prevent ice buildup.
- Plants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
- Waters lawn and shrubs.
- Repairs fences and gates.
- Cleans out drainage ditches and culverts.
- Sharpens tools such as weed cutters, edging tools, shears and mower blades.
- Makes minor repairs on equipment such as lawn mowers, spreader, and snow removal equipment.
- Collects trash and takes to dump site.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job occasionally monitors and assigns the work of 2-5 summer workers and WIP workers throughout the year.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred; andOne to six months related experience and/or training preferred

- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to operate assigned equipment safely and efficiently.
- Ability to follow oral instruction.
- Ability to interact positively with students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work alone and stay on task.
- Ability to work early morning shifts at times throughout the year, particularly during the winter months shoveling and removing snow.
- Will be required to work weekends as assigned.
- Respects the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ in private, personal, and public life.
- Commitment to the mission of the Roman Catholic Church in Native American education.
- Sensitivity to, and appreciation of Native American people and their cultures.
