Group Underwriter reviews and analyzes risk characteristics on insurance applications, renewals, and change requests. Utilizes underwriting guidelines, rules, standards, and levels of authority to accept, reject, or mitigate risk for applications and determine appropriate premiums, limits, and coverages. Being an Group Underwriter calculates renewal rates. Ensures that underwriting activities comply with all industry and governmental regulations. Additionally, Group Underwriter may coordinate with field agents to collect or clarify information or decisions. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Group Underwriter work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Work with craftspeople to apply root cause analysis and rapid problem-solving techniques to maintain or restore production.
Gathering data to assist in the application of root cause analysis and problem-solving techniques for major exceptions.
Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent (GED) from an accredited institution.
Minimum of 3 years of hands-on maintenance experience.
Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience with direct reports.
Previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
Mechanical background is a plus.
Experience in a union environment is a plus.
Knowledge of Company policies, procedures, and practices related to HR/IR including the bargaining and local agreements is a plus.
A working knowledge of principles and concepts of Lean Manufacturing (ABS) is required for effective business results.
Effective asset management in a cost-effective manner including proper equipment operations, world class equipment availability, and long-term viability of equipment.
Advance the business objectives regarding quality (consistency and reliability), costs (supplies), waste elimination, and lean manufacturing.
Make decisions about differential performance, both those requiring recognition and reward and those requiring discipline in a fair and equitable manner with supporting documentation of appropriateness of actions taken.
This position must frequently seek cooperation from, persuade or influence others, and must develop relationships and persuade others to resolve problems, change people's minds, or directly produce customer satisfaction.
Occasionally, the position deals with sensitive interpersonal situations and must motivate or negotiate with others to obtain desired results.
