Position Description: The primary responsibility of the Director of Hardware and Embedded Engineering is to ensure the successful execution of programs within the hardware and embedded engineering business area. Establishes processes, policies and procedures that produce high-quality software and firmware products and services. Ensures the effective and efficient execution of the hardware and embedded engineering responsibilities. Responsible for employee professional development, employee relations, conflict resolution, performance appraisals, pay reviews, and bonuses of the team. Make recommendations for employee terminations and hiring decisions. Deep knowledge of the hardware and embedded engineering function and solid knowledge of the overall hardware and embedded engineering solution function. Operates under general supervision.The Director of Hardware & Embedded Engineering is responsible for overseeing the design, development, testing, debugging, and implementation of all embedded software and hardware systems. This role involves strategic planning and engineering analysis. This role will utilize a multitude of development tools and lead the team in project milestones while adhering to approved budgets.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Program Managers and Technical Leads to establish project milestones and ensure project costs, schedule, and technical goals are met.
- Assist Program Managers and Technical Leads in reviewing requirements and timelines to facilitate rapid iteration and constant growth.
- Work with Program Managers to budget for appropriate project related facility resources and equipment.
- Work with Chief Scientist to develop concepts for future hardware products, to include technical writing.
- Work with Chief Scientist to fund future product development through organic growth, including proposal writing.
- Ensure all hardware and embedded engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformity with the organization's established objectives.
- Function as a strategist and champion for hardware and embedded architecture and design principles.
- Utilize best practices engineering methods to provide expert technical guidance for engineering initiatives.
- Design strategies for future development projects based on the company's overall objectives and resources.
- Lead hardware and embedded engineering team by providing clear direction and maintaining accountability for the team's performance.
- Serve as a champion for each team member in supporting employee's professional development plans, and optimization of task assignments
- Provide training and technical leadership to appropriate personnel regarding equipment operations, standards, and maintenance of equipment and make sure plans are executed by qualified employees.
- Report on the status of staff development, quality, operations, potential issues, risks, and courses of actions to leadership team.
- Build relationships with internal cross-functional teams providing leadership and guidance.
- Ensure compliance with security regulations.
- Review and update policies relevant to internal systems and equipment.
- Coordinate engineering support for testing, deployment, and updates.
- Ensures that project and department milestones and goals are met while adhering to approved budgets.
Qualifications / Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a related technical field (preferred Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering, General Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline) and a minimum of 7 years' experience in Program/Project Management.
- Minimum 10 years' experience in working with or within a branch (Air Force, Army, Navy, etc.) of the Department of Defense.
- Ability to travel as needed to our DoD customers and other stakeholder facilities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) to our DoD customers and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrated strong analytic and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage challenging situations with grace and professionalism.
- Ability to develop strong internal and external customer relationships, prioritize efforts and achieve results.
- In depth knowledge of program & project management processes, tools and procedures including ability to quickly learn and adapt to company's Enterprise Resource Planning system (Unanet) in reporting, analyzing, and managing project spend vs. budgets, and schedule performance.
- High level of proficiency in MS Project and MS Office.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance issued by the US Government. Security clearances may only be granted to US citizens.
