    SUMMARY
    The Manager of Hardware Engineering leads a team comprised of Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Sustaining, and R&D Engineers to deliver robust, high performance whole product solutions. A proven leader and mentor that has the ability to clarify difficult technical topics and provide clear goals for the team. This person will motivate the team to create the next generation of imaging, navigation, robotic and display technology. The position requires self-motivation and the ability to operate with minimal guidance to coordinate interactions with the various contributors and stakeholders that surround technically complex designs. An intuitive feel for mechanical and optical systems is required as is an ability to communicate effectively with electrical, software, and researchers. Candidates must have a track record of creativity in generating solutions combined with an appreciation of the practical realities of manufacturing and real-life use cases.

    SALARY AND PAY TRANSPARENCY
    Salary range for this position is between $145,000 and $190,000.  Base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, and all applicable company benefits.
    The salary range and/or hourly pay rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job posting and may be modified in the future.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.
    • Critical thinking and problem solving through leadership and hands-on management.
    • Assess and critique all aspects of concepts to design, performance and manufacturability.
    • Manage the team to product solutions that meet the defined market requirements, are easy to produce and have high reliability.
    • Manage project/individual contributor tasks per project scope and schedule using Jira or other task management tools.
    • Manage engineering documentation system and design transfer to production and/or service.
    • Solid ability to level and plan resources in a fast pace and dynamic product management environment to optimize product and technology development.
    • Simultaneously manage multiple internal and external initiatives/projects and deliver outstanding results.
    • Experienced in medical device or other FDA controlled environment, including IEC 60601.

    Education/Experience
    Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of engineering management experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 2 years experience; or equivalent experience.

    Language
    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

    Additional Skills
    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook or equivalent
    Working knowledge of Scrum or other Agile development methodologies (Jira preferred)
    Working knowledge of Mechanical Engineering development tools (Solidworks preferred)
    Working knowledge of Electrical Engineering development tools (Altium preferred)
    Expertise in project/product data management tools and process (Solidworks PDM, Arena PLM preferred)
    Expertise in medical device hardware development
    Experience with optical concepts, optical design and camera technology
    Broad knowledge of engineering concepts (EE, ME, SW, data analysis, modeling)
