A Head Coach, senior coach, or manager is a professional at training and developing athletes. They typically hold a more public profile and are paid more than other coaches. In some sports, the Head Coach is instead called the "manager", as in association football and professional baseball. In other sports such as Australian rules football, the Head Coach is generally termed a senior coach. Other coaches are usually subordinate to the Head Coach, often in offensive positions or defensive positions, and occasionally proceeding down into individualized position coaches....

• All coaches are required to have a Type 10 or Type 20 drivers’ certificate unless a medical condition prevents their ability to obtain.

• Interrupting and Preventing Discriminatory Acts Training
• OSAA Heat Illness prevention
COACHING STANDARDS: THE EXPECTATIONS
1. THE COACH IS PROFESSIONAL
• Is ethical and respectful to athletes, competitors, parents and officials.
• Follows all the rules and school district expectations.
2. THE COACH COMMUNICATES WELL
• Communicates effectively with athletes, parents and district staff.
• Maintains an openness to athlete and parent concerns and facilitates appropriate parent and athlete meetings.
3. THE COACH CAN PROVIDE A SAFE STRUCTURE FOR THE ATHLETES
• Appropriately supervises students in locker rooms, training areas and while being transported.
• Organizes practice sessions and other activities with attention to individual and group safety.
4. THE COACH CAN MANAGE THEIR SEASON
• Is effective at managing or assisting with finances, scheduling, transportation and other responsibilities.
• Provides an adequate system for management of equipment.
5. THE COACH IS KNOWLEDGEABLE OF THEIR SPORT AND CAN CREATE COMPETITIVE TEAMS
• Is effective at teaching skills and strategies to athletes.
• Can prepare a team for their opponents.
• Can make adjustments during competition.
• Abides by district and OSAA sport specific rules.
• The coach can create a team where higher and lower skilled athletes alike are team orientated and are motivated by the team concept.
This position serves as the leader of the program for both athletes and assistant coaches.
