Head Golf Professional is responsible for the overall day-to-day operations and services of the golf course, including the golf shop, tournaments, practice facilities, and cart fleet. Ensures golf facilities are properly maintained. Being a Head Golf Professional coordinates marketing programs to promote the facility's services to potential customers and oversees member events and daily play. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Head Golf Professional requires an active Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) membership. Typically reports to a golf course general manager. The Head Golf Professional manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Golf Professional typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     The purpose of this position is to provide Golf programs to the community, generate revenue and to provide oversight to Golf operations in the absence of the Director of Golf. This is accomplished by overseeing Range and Golf Shop operations, supervising personnel and/or professional service providers, administering agreements,  and generating revenue through program offerings, services and merchandise. Other duties may include monitoring the allocation of resources, assisting with the budget process, promoting Golf services, facilitating customer registration, processing professional service provider payment, purchasing supplies and equipment, providing organizational support for the department and interfacing with other City employees and citizens. This position provides direction to other employees.

    Essential Functions
    This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. The following examples do not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent.
    • Develops, implements and maintains various programs by assessing the needs of citizens, reserving facilities, purchasing and maintaining equipment and materials needed and advertising programs and assists the public with registration for programs.  Acts as a department liaison with golf professional associations and affiliations.
    • Supervises personnel and professional service providers by completing the hiring process including interviewing applicants for open positions, observing and monitoring work tasks, evaluating work performance and writing performance evaluations, assisting employees to correct deficiencies, scheduling staff, professional service providers and officials.
    • Monitors the allocations of resources by ensuring that supplies for the operation of the facility are maintained, orders new supplies and equipment.
    • Assists and recommends budget for operations by tracking and monitoring program revenue/cost recovery goals and program expenses. Develops cost analysis reports. Reconciles and processes vendor payments.
    • Oversees golf programs and operations by addressing and resolving complaints and concerns from the public, responding to emergencies when required, preparing facilities for programs, rentals and tournaments, and ensuring the cleanliness of facilities and grounds.
    • Provides oversight to Golf operations in the absence of the Director of Golf and serves in a lead capacity operationally. Serves in a Manager on Duty capacity as assigned, including opening and closing shifts, weekends and some holidays.
    • Assists with departmental special events, athletic events and recreational activities.

    Job Requirements
    Education & Experience
    Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
    • Bachelor's degree plus two (2) years of relevant work experience; OR
    • Associate's degree plus six (6) years of relevant work experience; OR
    • High School diploma or equivalent plus ten (10) years of relevant work experience

    Related Fields/Experience include but not limited to: Golf Operations or Programming; Parks, Recreation and Tourism; Therapeutic Recreation; Gerontology/Nutrition; Kinesiology, Sports Management or Physical Education. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered. 


    Certifications/Requirements
    • Valid Class C Drivers License
    • CPR/First Aid Certification, or the ability to obtain within four (4) months of hire.


    Work Schedule
    • Shifts are varied, and include opening and closing shifts as well as weekend and some holidays.
    The employer has the flexibility to adjust an employee's working hours as needed and at their discretion.
