Head Nurse - Obstetrics jobs in Augusta, ME

Head Nurse - Obstetrics directs nursing service activities for assigned patients in the delivery room and birthing units. Delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and obstetrics staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of obstetrics patient clinical records, and writes reports on obstetrics room staff performance and services rendered. Being a Head Nurse - Obstetrics maintains pre-set inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines and equipment, and keeps track of narcotics. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Additionally, Head Nurse - Obstetrics requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - Obstetrics manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Head Nurse - Obstetrics typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.       • The Birthplace at Stephens Memorial Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse with experience in labor, delivery, postpartum and newborn care. Coordinates total nursing care for patients ranging in age from infants to the elderly, as appropriate to discipline. Participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary nursing and other members of the health care team in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice. 
    • Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
      • Education: N/A
      • License/Certifications: Active RN license. RQI BLS Certification within first 30 days of employment. Other certifications specific to department policies may be required.
      • Experience: N/A
      • Knowledge of nursing processes; structure and functions
      • Knowledge of chart/medical record documentation and terminology requirements and federal/state laws related to release of health care information
      • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary for interacting with patients, physicians, supervisors and other staff
      • Skill in time management, problem solving, multitasking, prioritizing and medical care coordination
      • Ability to calculate and administer drug dosages and injections and measure results
      • Ability to respond the changing workload based on patient census and to direct, supervise and evaluate care in order to individualize nursing care provided to patients
      • Ability to maintain professional manner even under stressful situations
