Delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and obstetrics staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of obstetrics patient clinical records, and writes reports on obstetrics room staff performance and services rendered. Being a Head Nurse - Obstetrics maintains pre-set inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines and equipment, and keeps track of narcotics. Requires a bachelor's degree in nursing. Additionally, Head Nurse - Obstetrics requires Registered Nurse (RN). Typically reports to a director. The Head Nurse - Obstetrics manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Job Summary
Provide Midwifery services to assigned patients.
Responsibilities
Acquire and maintain privileges as independent allied health professional staff. Work as member of a multi-disciplinary team to provide comprehensive obstetrical and gynecological health care. Provide primary care based on protocols. May include family member follow-up as indicated. Obtain comprehensive history, perform a comprehensive physical exam and identify deviations from normal. Order approved diagnostic tests, lab tests and medications as indicated. Perform lab tests as indicated: Multistix Urinalysis, Nitrazine and Ferning Test for Rupture of Amniotic Membranes, and information according to the management process. Complete all required documentation. Manage prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, normal newborn, family planning and gynecological care of patients. Consult, collaboratively manage and/or refer deviations from normal as appropriate. Initiate emergency treatment as necessary. Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills. Attend assigned clinical sessions and meetings. Maintain records, compile statistics, prepare required reports. Participate in research, educational activities and the teaching of students, as assigned. Observe all health and safety requirements.
