Social and Emotional Coach (Part Time)

  • Job Summary:

    The Social and Emotional Coach is responsible for coaching all teaching staff in the implementation of the Pyramid model (CSEFEL Framework) to support the behavioral/social/emotional health of all children enrolled in the SCS Head Start program. The Social and Emotional Coach will be familiar with Head Start Performance Standards and the CSEFEL Framework and will be available for staff on a regular basis. The Social and Emotional Coach will be available for parents to offer strategies/techniques and resources to support social skills and the emotional wellness of children at school as well as at home. The Social and Emotional Coach will develop goals in collaboration with teachers to increase teacher competence and development. The Coach will role-model with the use of positive language, the execution of a strategy, or with the guidance teachers may need to increase positive teacher child interactions. The Social and Emotional Coach is responsible for providing ongoing support for creating environments that are conducive to ensuring happiness, building self-esteem and fostering secure attachments and a sense of wonder. The Social and Emotional Coach will work collaboratively with the Behavior Specialist/Disabilities Services Manager and the Education Services Manager. The Social and Emotional Coach is open for acquiring continuing education to stay current and to help the program implement the best practices.

    Essential Functions:

    • Responsible for coaching the teaching staff with the implementation of the Pyramid Model to fidelity (CSEFEL Framework), ensuring that teachers are providing comprehensive, developmentally appropriate strategies to support the social and emotional development of all children to increase a positive climate.
    • Responsible for assisting teaching staff with appropriate curriculum planning, role modeling and implementation of strategies/techniques, and providing resources for ensuring happiness, building self-esteem, and fostering secure attachments and sense of wonder.
    • Responsible for conducting observations of teaching staff and their interactions with children to create opportunities for discussion that would lead to incorporating new approaches into teachers’ practices.
    • Also responsible for being open to providing feedback in a supportive, instructive, and nonjudgmental way, and for supporting staff through individualization of learning style and model best practices.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education with extensive knowledge of child development.
    • Be able to apply professional knowledge and work with adult learners.
    • Be familiar with the Performance Standards, NAEYC, program delivery systems, policies and procedures; be familiar with current research and translate into class instruction.
    • Ability to work flexible hours.
    • Must pass NH State Licensing requirement for background check, fingerprinting, and criminal record check, and the Head Start requirement for a sex offender check, before hire.
    • Certification in child first aid and CPR (program will provide upon hire).
    • Classroom experience with pre-school children (Head Start experience preferred).
    • Be willing to travel within Cheshire and Sullivan counties.
    • Creativity, flexibility, and a positive attitude working with children, staff and families
    • Extensive experience working and communicating with culturally, linguistically, developmentally age diverse groups.
    • Prior experience of working with low-income families and children in educational settings with strong communication skills.
    • A working knowledge of CSEFEL Framework and expectations is preferred. Training will be provided on CSEFEL if not.
    • Knowledge of Practice Based Coaching model is preferred. However, the training will be provided.
    • Strong interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution skills, including the ability to work as part of a team, the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, receive and provide feedback, and manage dynamic interchanges in meetings.

    This position will be based out of our Claremont, NH location in Sullivan County. Travel is required between our Claremont and Newport centers as well as our main office in Keene for occasional meetings and training.

    Job Type: Part-time

    Pay: $26.38 per hour
