The big picture

Thorstad Companies is seeking a Safety Manager who is passionate about leading and inspiring people to contribute to a culture of safety and interested in being part of a growing company dedicated to excellence. The Safety Manager will provide operational management for the safety and environmental awareness programs dedicated to being "best in class", reporting to the Director of Marketing and HR. The Safety Manager shall have the ability to work with a high level of professionalism in an ever-changing environment while being detail orientated, flexible, proactive, efficient and resourceful. Travel to various project specific sites will be required. The Safety Manager will have supervisory responsibility of one or more safety professionals. Position will be based in either Alexandria, MN or Lindon, UT based on applicant preference.

What you will be doing

• Manage Company's overall safety and environmental awareness program, policies and procedures
  • Communicate company's safety and environmental awareness vision, objectives, strategies, policies, and procedures in order to build a culture dedicated to behaviors which lead to best in class results.
  • Stay up to date, identify and institute changes to programs to ensure compliance with the company standards as well as client and regulatory entity requirements.
  • Manage administrative tasks related to safety including instructions, forms, documentation, tracking, analysis, equipment monitoring, OSHA recordkeeping, management reports, inspection requirements, etc.

• • Lead incident investigations and evaluations and report progress to completion.
  • Assist with safety related inspections, compliance reviews, insurance provider reviews/audits, and other federal, state, or local agency reviews/inquiries.
  • Other duties as assigned.

• Lead development and implementation of project specific safety programs
  • Work with project specific team to develop, organize and implement jobsite safety plans and training.
  • Conduct site evaluations, take necessary corrective actions, follow up and track to assist in elimination of hazards.

• • Maintain jobsite safety and environmental supplies and equipment.
  • Coordinate emergency safety plans and procedures, including evacuation, rescue, hazmat records, and fire suppression.

• Prepare, deliver and/or coordinate all safety/environmental related training
  • Prepare, conduct and document safety/environmental related training for the employees and appropriate business partners.
  • Educate and train company management, staff, and business partners about the programs and their respective responsibilities.

• Provide leadership to on-site safety coordinators
  • Develops a high performance, customer-oriented work team, through hiring, motivating, coaching, appraising, rewarding & disciplining, and addressing complaints and resolving issues related to staff.
  • Conduct employee assessment, review and feedback as needed and on a semi-annual basis to provide mentoring, coaching and rewards for continued employee development.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in EHS, Engineering or related field or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in field of construction health and safety
• OSHA 30 certification
• Strong interpersonal, team building, communication, problem solving, planning and leadership skills.
• Detail orientated with the ability and organization to manage multiple project tasks.
• Strong computer skills, proficiency in MS Office applications

• Deep knowledge of applicable Federal and State Safety and Health Regulations

• Current driver's license

Preferred qualifications

• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is preferred
• OSHA 500
