Health and Safety Supervisor supervises the identification and remediation of hazardous workplace conditions. Oversees the measurement and sampling of hazardous materials, and any removal of physical, biological and chemical hazards. Being a Health and Safety Supervisor investigates, analyzes, and reports on any accidents or unsafe events and suggests remedial and preventative actions. Develops a safety conscious culture by providing workforce education on first aid, emergency/safety procedures and regulations. Additionally, Health and Safety Supervisor ensures all necessary records are maintained and are in compliance with all applicable federal and state health and safety regulations. Participates in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections, providing inspectors with appropriate documents and identifying safety measures. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a Manager. The Health and Safety Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Health and Safety Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. We are currently seeking a skilled and detail-oriented person to join our Operations team as an Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist at our Evansville, IN facility.
This position is responsible for performing and initiating activities that support our corporate EHS management system that focuses upon providing a safe and healthy workplace for our employees, sustainability of resources and compliance with applicable EHS regulations promulgated within the countries. The EHS Specialist is responsible for ensuring Red Spot maintains or exceeds its employee safety and health initiatives; good corporate citizenship status; and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and agencies. The Specialist will work on EHS initiatives across multiple facilities in order to maintain compliance with all applicable to all State and Federal rules and regulations for environmental with a particular focus on health and safety.
Responsibilities:
Safety Interactions & Communication at Floor Level – Interact with employees and company management to communicate safety requirements, proactively identify compliance opportunities, and implement compliance requirements. Provide direction and guidance to personnel on safety matters. Inspect facility to identify existing or potentially hazardous conditions. Recommend proactive corrective / preventive measures to reduce risk. Establish and maintain effective working relationship with employee safety committee, department managers, and employees.
Training – Plan, schedule, coordinate and conduct safety, orientation and environmental training. Develop training programs in a manner that raises employee’s awareness and enables employees and supervisors to work safely.
Regulatory Compliance– Complete work in the areas of RCRA, OSHA 300 logs, and signing manifests. Assist with implementation of workplace processes and procedures that help protect workers from hazardous conditions by ensuring our safety programs are up to date with regulatory guidelines. Generate reports and documentation as necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory record keeping requirements standards for regulators or internal requirements Identifies, monitors, evaluates and tracks all EHS activities through audits, statistical analysis and computerized record keeping.
Accident and Incident Investigations – Support supervisors and managers on accident, incidents, and near-misses to identify causes and implement the proper corrective actions that might prevent future occurrences.
Administrative Tasks for EHS Dept– Complete administrative tasks and finalize all paperwork associated with EHS function. Utilize attention to detail to verify all documentation is accurate and thorough.
Other Assigned Project – support other departments and areas when a project arises. Promote a safe working environment and increase safety awareness.
