Being a Health Education & Coaching Director monitors, assesses, and reviews educational programs for effectiveness. Requires a bachelor's degree in a related area. Additionally, Health Education & Coaching Director typically reports to senior management. The Health Education & Coaching Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Health Education & Coaching Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Job Description
    The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Heersink School of Medicine, Department of Family and Community Medicine, is seeking to hire a Director for the Alabama Health and Education Centers (AHEC) to join our talented team. Our department is committed to continuous improvement in patient care, education, research, and service.
    Consideration will be given to individuals holding a Doctorate in Higher Education Administration or related field for a full-time position. Position is an open rank, open tenure, twelve-month faculty position. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
    This individual will be involved in leading the following efforts:


    • Program Leadership: Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to the statewide AHEC program, aligning its goals with the mission of the UAB Heersink School of Medicine. Develop and implement short-term and long-term goals, objectives, and initiatives in collaboration with key partners.
    • Program Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the statewide AHEC program, ensuring effective coordination of activities across multiple AHEC sites. Manage program budget, personnel, and resources efficiently. Develop and monitor program performance metrics and evaluation processes to measure the impact and effectiveness of AHEC initiatives.
    • Stakeholder Engagement: Foster and maintain strong partnerships with academic institutions, healthcare organizations, community leaders, and other key partners. Collaborate with state and regional entities to identify and address healthcare workforce needs, particularly in underserved and rural communities.
    • Curriculum Development: Collaborate with educational institutions and healthcare organizations to develop and implement educational programs and resources that promote primary care, interprofessional education, and healthcare workforce development. Support the integration of AHEC initiatives into academic and clinical settings.
    • Program Expansion: Identify opportunities for expanding the reach and impact of the AHEC program. Advocate for funding and resources to support program growth and sustainability.
    • Professional Development: Stay current with trends, policies, and best practices in healthcare, primary care, rural health, and health professions education. Foster a culture of continuous learning among AHEC staff and partners through professional development opportunities.
    • Advocacy and Outreach: Serve as a spokesperson and advocate for the AHEC program, promoting its mission and impact to partners, policymakers, and the public. Engage in community outreach and public awareness activities to raise awareness about healthcare careers and improve health outcomes in underserved populations.

    Required Qualifications
