Health Educator is responsible for developing and designing health education programs meant to increase community awareness and knowledge. Conducts needs assessments and keeps up-to-date on changes in health care technology to keep program material current. Being a Health Educator develops, coordinates, and disseminates educational resources and materials. May provide health education outreach and consultation. Additionally, Health Educator requires a bachelor's degree in a related area. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Health Educator work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Job Overview:
This is a county position funded by the Greene County Government.
The Public Health Educator works with community organizations, schools, senior centers, and other agencies to promote healthy behaviors with an emphasis on tobacco prevention, healthy weight and nutrition, substance misuse and other areas that impact the overall health of the community in which they serve.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Facilitates programming to youth and adults in a school or community setting.
· Provides leadership in program development, implementation, and program evaluation of assigned prevention topics.
· Maintains program development, implementation, and evaluation of prevention topics.
· Empowers stakeholders in accomplishing program objectives and activities through outreach events.
· Identifies the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by breaking down information or data into separate parts to achieve specified goals.
· Works in conjunction with the County Director to communicate health-related information to local media outlets and community organizations.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
· Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in public health, health education, biology, or a related field and experience equivalent to one year full-time professional health education work.
· Valid Driver’s License
· Computer Skills, proficiency in Microsoft programs
