Health Informatics Director directs an organization's clinical biostatistics or health informatics department. Oversees the analysis, management and performance of health information data to aid patient care. Being a Health Informatics Director monitors latest software and technology to keep processes up-to-date and efficient. Communicates with other departments and team members to identify new sources of data, ensure data is used effectively, and establish new initiatives. Additionally, Health Informatics Director requires a master's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Health Informatics Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Health Informatics Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     The Informaticist focuses upon meeting the electronic medical record (EMR) end user IT related needs for UnityPoint Health Des Moines’ hospital based and ambulatory areas/departments. This role ensures support of the EMR and other clinical and nonclinical systems as assigned related to adoption, implementation, support, optimization, change management, communication, issue management, business continuity, and downtime recovery. The Clinical Informaticist will work directly with all levels within UPH DM in support of strategic initiatives and patient experience in collaboration with UPH IT resources.

    Responsibilities
    • Responsible to master specific Epic applications and UPH-DM workflows. Teach the application(s) to others within the organization following the standardized and best practice curriculum
    • Identifies, issues and opportunities within the EMR, seeks approval for enhancement requests, and assists in the prioritization and implementation of these system changes.
    • Collaborates with UPH IT, physicians and clinical staff to insure EMR implementations are optimized based on clinical workflow
    • Effective communication with leadership and end users to ensure smooth implementation of new functional elements, applications, and major releases.
    • Understands and addresses the impact of the EMR on other clinical applications and operations
    • Develops departmental operational and management backup procedures for business continuity, and downtime recovery.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements

    Preferred or Specialized

    Education:

    Associate or bachelor’s degree

    Bachelor’s degree in Nursing

    Experience:

    Minimum two years’ experience

    Healthcare experience preferred.

    License(s)/Certification(s):

    Must achieve Epic Credentialed Trainer status within 4-6 months of hire for assigned Epic modules.

    Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    Analytical, accountable, collaborative, effective communication-written & verbal, flexible, Interpersonal skills, leadership skills, manages priorities, planning and organizing skills, professional, and works effectively as a team member.

    Adaptability, Technical aptitude – ability to learn new systems quickly, knowledgeable in the use of the electronic health record, experience with healthcare IT applications, effective use of Microsoft Office Professional products

    Other:

    Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.

    Work may occasionally require travel to other UPH facilities. May drive a UPH vehicle, rental or own vehicle.
