- - Underwrite an Ocean Marine book of business. Job entails marketing, analyzing risks along with setting terms and conditions of a contract. An underwriter is expected to produce business and make an underwriting profit for the company. Marketing, producing accounts, understanding Ocean Marine exposures, primarily Hull and Liability, knowing how to price account and the policy forms to use. The underwriter must make sure he writes his business within the reinsurance guidelines. The goal is to write a growing profitable book of business. Expected to travel for marketing as required Must have a strong working relationship with the broker market in the West Coast USA region. Must understand the Lines of business, forms and pricing the exposures written. Must be able to work as a team member, including the USA Marine Team in NY. Communication skills are needed. Must be disciplined and conservative to maintain an underwriting standard of writing quality business at a profitable level. Key Outputs: Must see a flow of business in from brokers. Must analyse risks. Must set proper terms and conditions including pricing to make an underwriting profit. Must never exceed the aggregation limits set by management. Must work within the parameters of our reinsurance treaty. In addition to the above key responsibilities, you may be required to undertake other duties from time to time as the Company may reasonably require Experience: 5 Plus years’ experience in Marine Underwriting Strong understanding of the different lines of business in the Marine space.
