Health Underwriting Director directs and oversees the health insurance underwriting program for individuals and/or groups for medical and/or dental insurance. Responsible for ensuring integrity of underwriting activities and processes. Being a Health Underwriting Director manages staff of underwriters at the organization. Provides assistance to underwriters on more complex applications. Additionally, Health Underwriting Director has a strong knowledge of the underwriting discipline. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Health Underwriting Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. This position provides oversight to TVCs education and staff development services. Develops, designs, and oversees clinical education and competency training for clinical services staff. Evaluates effectiveness of programs and provides guidance to staff and key leaders based on results. Facilitates assessment and identification of ongoing learning needs for staff development programs. These partnerships include ongoing collaboration with physician, facility and organizational leaders. Responsibilities include all aspects of clinical operations, clinician and patient/family education, customer service, patient safety, financial outcomes, and quality outcome management and regulatory compliance.

Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers of Foundation Health Partners with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating our core and leader behaviors each and every day.
Must possess a strong knowledge of as normally obtained through the completion of a bachelors degree in nursing.
Requires a current RN license in state of practice. Requires BLS certification.
Must possess a strong knowledge and understanding of clinical care management as normally demonstrated through 6 years of relevant experience including at least 4 years of progressively responsible experience in a lead, supervisory, or equivalent capacity. Requires strong written and oral communication skills. Must demonstrate strong decision-making and critical thinking skills along with the ability to lead change.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
