Health Underwriting Director directs and oversees the health insurance underwriting program for individuals and/or groups for medical and/or dental insurance. Responsible for ensuring integrity of underwriting activities and processes. Being a Health Underwriting Director manages staff of underwriters at the organization. Provides assistance to underwriters on more complex applications. Additionally, Health Underwriting Director has a strong knowledge of the underwriting discipline. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Health Underwriting Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. The Nurse Practitioner works as part of the clinic provider team performing a variety of direct patient services including assessment, diagnosis, implementation of treatment, evaluation, and monitoring the general patient management plan for clinic patients. The Nurse Practitioner performs these functions in accordance with the collaborative practice agreement (CPA) with the collaborating physician in the primary health care setting.
Responsibilities:
1. Obtains complete medical history from patient, Women’s Health, previous medical record, etc.
2. Adjusts and prescribes medications according to therapeutic goals and explains treatment to patients, families and other clinic personnel.
3. Teaches and counsels patients and families.
4. Consults with physicians and other members of the health care team as necessary.
5. Performs other necessary duties as required by Primary Health Services Center to
meet the goal of providing primary health care services.
6. Performs complete physical examinations on patients.
7. Orders routine and diagnostic lab and radiological studies.
8. Diagnoses acute and chronic illness on the basis of clinical findings, laboratory and
x-ray reports and the results of other diagnostic procedures according to approved
protocols.
9. Formulates, initiates and monitors patient management plans for patients assigned to
the Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, using consultation with a supervising physician
as needed.
10. Refers patients requiring hospitalization or consult for assessment and management of conditions to supervising physicians or appropriate specialist. Follows patients closely with physician.
11. Renders emergency care and treatment including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, starting
I-V fluids, medications and sutures lacerations.
12. Maintains all patient records to comply with required standards, reviews records regularly
and obtains physician counter signatures where necessary.
13. Attends all Primary Health Services Center Staff/Provider Meetings.
14. Follow Meaningful Use and Patient Centered Medical Home Criteria.
15. Any other assignments deemed necessary by the Medical Director, Physician, Director of Nursing, CEO, COO or designee.
Qualifications:
1. Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing from a Nurse Practitioner program recognized by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
2. The ability to relate with effectiveness to patients and providers.
3. Maintain active CPR certification.
4. Sufficient experience to carry out the duties of this position.
