Information Desk Attendant – Part-Time
The Opportunity
The Town of Mansfield (www.mansfieldct.gov) is hiring a part-time Information Desk Attendant at the Library Express branch in the Nash Zimmer Transportation Center. This position is scheduled to work 16 hours per week. The hours for this position are currently: Wednesdays and Fridays 9am – 1pm, Thursdays 1pm – 5pm, and Saturdays 10am – 2pm. Hours may vary, but availability for Saturdays is a must.
The Information Desk Attendant must have an interest in working with the public and the ability to work independently, following oral and written directions. Basic computer skills as well as the ability to organize materials numerically and alphabetically are required.
The Information Desk Attendant duties include:

Providing general information to the public;
- Performing library circulation functions and associated duties in the operation of the Transportation Center Other duties as assigned;
- Shelving and shifting library materials to maintain proper order and spacing of the collections.
The successful candidate must have the ability to meet the physical demands required of the position, including: pushing loaded library carts, carrying up to 40 pounds, and bending/reaching frequently. Applicants must be customer focused and be 18 years of age.

The Mansfield Library provides guidance and access to the materials and information which enhance and enrich the lives of people of all ages. The Mansfield Library Express is a library branch at the Nash-Zimmer Transportation Center located in Downtown Storrs. It’s a quick and convenient place to return items borrowed from the library and pick up items that have requested. The Library Express has a small collection of DVDs, magazines and books to browse. The Nash-Zimmer Transportation Center is the Town of Mansfield's transportation hub where residents & visitors can catch a bus, store their bike, park their car, visit attractions, and more.
Mansfield, with a population of approximately 26,000, is located in the Northeastern portion of the state, better known as Connecticut’s Last Green Valley National Heritage Corridor. Home to the University of Connecticut, Mansfield offers the unique blend of urban (Downtown Storrs - www.mansfieldmdp.org), suburban, and rural living in a university setting. Mansfield has a variety of cultural and educational offerings, as well as an abundance of natural resources ideal for activities such as hiking, cycling, and kayaking. Mansfield is a Council-Manager form of government, with the Town Manager serving as the Chief Executive Officer responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Town.
Work Schedule
The selected candidate will be scheduled for up to 16 hours per week. The work location is the Library Express branch at the Nash Zimmer Transportation Center, 23 Royce Circle, Mansfield, CT 06268.
Compensation
Hourly rate is $15.69/hr beginning January 1, 2024.This position is part-time with no benefits.
Minimum Training and Experience
High School diploma or GED required. This position requires a varied work schedule including weekends.
