Job Summary:
The Brick and Block Mason will use bricks, concrete blocks, and other stone materials to build walls, fences, and other structures. We are looking for a skilled, experienced mason who can cut, dress and lay brick and block, and who is proficient with both modern power tools and traditional hand tools. Masons can expect to work in all weather and with various materials, lift and carry heavy objects, and read and assess technical drawings. Their responsibilities include texturing and polishing brick and block, installing dressed brick and block, mixing cement and mortar, and restoring old and damaged masonry works. Successful masons should have a love for traditional techniques, a keenness for learning, exceptional problem-solving skills, and should have a natural talent for working with their hands. Ideal candidates will have completed an apprenticeship, and will be physically fit and able.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Builds walls, fences, walkways, roads, and other structures using bricks, stone, concrete blocks, or marble.
- Carves out and builds structures and surfaces with bricks or concrete blocks.
- Places brick or concrete blocks on mortar bed.
- Cuts or saws bricks to fit around windows and doors.
- Measures distances to lay out work.
- Mixes mortar and grout to be used to lay brick.
- Spreads mortar onto brick or block surface with a trowel.
- Examines brickwork to ensure structure is built correctly.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- MUST HAVE AT LEAST 1 YEAR EXPERIENCE
- Extensive knowledge of bricklaying techniques and procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints preferred.
- Thorough understanding of math and geometry.
- Must be willing to learn new skills such as small hand power tools and willing to learn how to operate heavy equipment
- Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical/vocational school program preferred.
- Three or more years of related experience highly preferred.
- Completion of a masonry apprenticeship or certificate program or minimum 1 year on the job experience
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing and working outside in all weather conditions.
- The work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project
- Work is often performed at heights up to 60 feet, requiring the employee to climb ladders, scaffolds and stair towers, often with narrow steps and passageways
- Physically able to perform labor required to lay bricks and concrete blocks.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination.

Pay: $18-$26 per hour
