Responsibilities

• Under close direction, responsible for assisting with and / or performs basic repairs and preventative maintenance of scientific equipment commonly used in biology labs.
• Maintain shop areas including tools and machinery, and proper use of safety equipment.
• Unpack, move, and install laboratory equipment. Prioritizes incoming work orders as per departmental policies. Manages time and plans jobs to achieve recharge financial goals.
• Assist LSFO with miscellaneous operational tasks (equipment moves, equipment installations, material pick-up and delivery) as requested.
• Documents labor and material usage for recharge reports. Maintains shop and shop equipment in serviceable and safe condition.

Maintains shop inventory.

Develops equipment repair skills through direct instruction from supervisor and other online training and resources.

Required Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of engineering principles and methods to perform entry-level professional engineering functions.
• Knowledge of the fundamental concepts of the field.
• Analytical skills, and strong skills in attention to detail.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Analytical and judgment skills to conduct analyses and develop appropriate recommendations.
• Ability to work in a collaborative manner.
• Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and two years of experience in general shop work or in a skilled trade, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $29.37 to $33.66 (stepped rates).
