Histology Technologist performs complex histological procedures used to prepare specimens of tissue for examination and analysis by a Pathologist. Performs grossing, processing, embedding, microtomy, and both routine and multiple staining of samples. Being a Histology Technologist performs quality control on completed slides. Identifies problems that may affect diagnosis and results. Additionally, Histology Technologist records observations from tests. Documents maintenance of instruments and equipment used in the lab. Complies with established laboratory policies for universal precautions and safety. Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically requires completion of an accredited histotechnology program. Requires ASCP Histotechnologist certification (HTL). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Histology Technologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree in science required, Bachelor's degree in science is preferred. Experience with all aspects of histology and HT certification is desirable; however, on the job training is available to the right candidate.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Histology Technician will perform daily, routine, and specialized histology techniques and procedures including: processing, tissue embedding, cutting specimen tissue using a microtome, slide preparation and staining with dyes or other chemicals to make cell details visible under the microscope. You will evaluate routine/special stains for expected reactivity and quality of sections. As a Histology Technician, you will utilize, maintain and troubleshoot multiple types of equipment within the laboratory. The ideal candidate must be able to multitask, prioritize, problem solve, and organize. Hours may vary to allow for training and work load, but typically will be from 3:00am to 11:30am.
