    Job Description Summary

    The Assistant Director of Housing Operations/Assignments, as a member of the Residence Education and Housing Services team, applies a student development focus to managing residence hall campus occupancy to ensure all operations intentionally promote student growth. With student development as its focus, this position is a champion of efficiency and organization in managing the campus occupancy and is responsible for all aspects of housing contracts, applications, assignments, and billing for campus housing operations for the residence halls. Additionally, this person partners with the Associate Director in the continued implementation of our housing management software and collaborates with IT and ISS to maximize its utilization to improve efficiency for our operations and students.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

    Core functional position-specific duties

    * Responsible for the management of all contracts and the housing assignment process related to all undergraduate residential beds. This includes both new contracts and contract renewal.
    * Oversee and manage all aspects of housing occupancy ensuring accurate records and efficient operations through the usage of the housing management software (Adirondack/THD).
    * Execute all housing operations and coordinate processes related to residence hall occupancy transactions including but not limited to: room changes, assignments, cancellations, waitlists, room selection, ADA accommodations.
    * Assist in the ongoing implementation of housing management software (Adirondack/THD) and collaborate with stakeholders in maximizing it's utilization on campus to improve efficiency and satisfaction of operations within the community.
    * Intentionally engage with students on providing solutions to challenges with their housing assignment and apply student development practices that promote student agency and growth
    * Assist the Associate Director in the maintenance and management of the overall operations of the housing management software (Adirondack/THD) and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure its operation on campus is occurring at optimal levels
    * Monitor the application of all student housing transactions in collaboration with Student Billing: processing charges, credits, and applying the appropriate proration to student accounts in a timely manner.
    * Coordinate with the Assistant Director of Residence Education on the appropriate distribution of survey instruments and collaborate on the creation of a report to inform stakeholders of survey results.
    * Partner with the Associate Director of Housing in the organization of transition period processes (break periods, academic term transitions) as well as coordinating communications with necessary stakeholders regarding early arrivals, late departures, and approvals to stay during the break.
    * Co-supervise, train, and provide ongoing leadership to the Housing Operations Coordinator who is responsible for oversight of the Reception Desks, Quad Core and assists the department in various projects.
    * Lead the merit waiver release process directing the committee in reviewing requests from students to be excused from the residency requirement and manage the case communications ensuring accuracy through the Maxient system.
    * Assist the Associate Director and housing team in all aspects of housing processes to ensure an excellent student service and customer service experience for stakeholders.
    * Represent Housing in smaller scale project management for residence hall improvement projects, as needed.
    * Assist the housing team in ensuring central office operations are providing excellent public facing customer service support.
    * Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.
    * Actively engage in creating an inclusive, welcoming, and professional work environment for staff, students, and visitors.
    * Participate and actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives and strategies and apply knowledge to everyday work.

    Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

    * Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Sociology, Education, Business, Hospitality Management, or related field.

    Required Experience (minimum requirements)

    * Three years of progressive leadership/responsibility working in higher education residence life settings focused on applying student development practices in a professional capacity or an equivalent combination of student services experience.
    * Three years' experience using software systems, personal computers.

    Desirable Education and/or Experience

    * Master's degree in Higher Education, Psychology, Sociology, Hospitality Management, Business, or a related field is strongly preferred.
    * Four to six years full time experience in the residence life field demonstrating progressive growth and responsibilities in a university setting is preferred.

    * Computer skills: strong proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software, preferably Microsoft Office or Google Suite. Candidate will need to navigate multiple activities (room assignments, billing, reports, etc.) utilizing housing management software and must have necessary computer skills to achieve this.

During the month of August, staff should anticipate a high demand workload in preparation for the opening of the academic year. Time off requests for the month of August are typically unable to be approved.
