    Position Summary

    The University of New Mexico’s (UNM) Office for Academic Personnel is looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking Operations Manager to supervise the day-to-day operation of the office. The Office for Academic Personnel (OAP) serves as a central service center for administrators and faculty regarding academic personnel human resources needs. OAP specifically supports the labor relations, recruitment, selection, appointment, promotion, retention and oversight of a diverse, highly talented academic personnel within academic units on UNM Main and Branch campuses.

    The Operations Manager will supervise a team of HR Analysts and support personnel, lead process improvement initiatives and by providing expert guidance on academic personnel matters. The Operations Manager will work closely with UNM’s Division of Human Resources, the Provost and the Provost’s Leadership team, deans, and branch campus chancellors to resolve issues that affect academic personnel and provide seamless service and support to the University

    Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Supervises the daily operations of the Office for Academic Personnel oversees the human resources function for academic personnel for Main and Branch Campuses ensuring compliance with university, local, state, and federal policies and regulations.
    • Supervises OAP staff which typically includes recommendations for hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution.
    • Provides advice and policy interpretation to administrators and faculty on policy and procedural matters pertaining to academic personnel matters; responds to inquiries and independently investigates and resolves problems related to academic personnel.
    • Coordinates and manages data collection and analysis systems to monitor intake of personnel actions, processing efficiency, and to ensure data accuracy.
    • Provides excellent customer service and monitors personnel systems and applications to ensure efficient completion of academic personnel actions.
    • Assists with the development and implementation of standard operation procedures and departmental procedures to support academic personnel actions.
    • Recommends and implements process improvements to enhance transparency and accuracy of personnel processes and information.

    Minimum Qualifications

    High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of experience managing at least one of the following functional areas: fiscal services, administration and/or human resources AND 3 years of additional experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

    Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

    Preferred Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will have the following preferred qualifications:

    •  Advanced degree in Human Resources or Employment Law
    •  Experience supervising HR staff
    •  Experience in Higher Education
    • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate complex information effectively, both orally and in writing
    • Experience with human resources policy interpretation and application
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated experience investigating and analyzing complex HR issues
    •   Excellent time management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines
    • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships and establish positive, productive rapport at all levels of an organization
    • Proven ability to influence and build strong, collaborative working relationships with colleagues and customers; strong consultative, interpersonal, and leadership skills
    • Information Systems (HRIS), and other technical platforms
    •  Current HRCI, SHRM, or other HR Certification
