The Juneau School District, located in Southeast Alaska, is accepting applications for the position of Human Resources Director. The school district offers a wide and varied educational program to students in preschool through grade twelve. Our enrollment is approximately 4,300 students, with 650 certified and classified permanent employees. This position serves on the Superintendent's Cabinet and is not represented by a bargaining unit.
SUMMARY: As a member of the Superintendent’s cabinet the Human Resource Director is responsible for the dynamic planning, coordinating, and directing the personnel functions for the school district including labor relations, advising Principals and Supervisory staff, communications, staffing, hiring, policy administration, employee evaluation, and record-keeping for all certified and classified staff. The incumbent will work as an active member of the Human Resource department. We are looking for an effective and compassionate team member comfortable with all aspects of Human Resources and Labor Relations including how HR methodologies integrate into a Pre-K - 12 Educational environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree or higher from a regionally accredited university.
- Three years of successful administrative experience, minimum.
- Experience in labor relations.
- Must have, or be eligible for and will obtain upon hire, an Alaska Type-B administrative certificate.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Broad knowledge of multiple human resource functional areas.
- Knowledge of teacher/staff evaluation systems.
- Experience with leading change efforts in a large, diverse organization.
- Knowledge of current HR practices.
- Background and experience in contract negotiations and labor-related hearings.
- A good working knowledge of school law and relevant federal laws.
ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated organization and leadership abilities.
- Outstanding interpersonal, communication and mediation skills.
- Successful experience handling disciplinary and grievance procedures.
- Ability to supervise and evaluate personnel.
- Desire to work as part of a progressive, innovative management team.
- Computer skills including knowledge of Windows, Google Suite, web-based systems and Microsoft Suite. Comfortable learning HR specific programs such as Frontline, Infinite Visions and TimeClock Plus.
- Broad knowledge of multiple human resource functional areas.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities.
- Effective time and work management skills.
- Able to promote continued improvement and efficiency in the human resource department and implement districtwide change in a smooth, orderly manner.
- Understanding of the job classification process in order to oversee and provide guidance for classification of non-certificated positions.
- Able to develop a diverse workforce that is representative of the Juneau community.
COMPENSATION:
This is a 260-day contract; salary placement is dependent on education and experience.
