Human Resources Director jobs in New London, CT

Human Resources Director plans and oversees human resources functional operations, including talent acquisition, compensation, benefits, training, employee relations, safety, and compliance. Administers human resources programs and policies to reflect the organization's mission and values, support company goals, achieve objectives, and positively engage the workforce. Being a Human Resources Director maintains broad and current subject matter knowledge and expertise in federal and state employment laws to advise leadership with solutions for human resources issues and evolving organizational needs. Implements an HRIS or other system to facilitate processes and provide data and reporting on HR activity. Additionally, Human Resources Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Human Resources Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Human Resources Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.   • Summary of Job Description: 

    Incumbent is accountable for designing, implementing, and administering highly complex, comprehensive personnel programs for the Mohegan Tribe in the areas of employment, employee engagement, performance management, organizational and leadership development, employee relations, benefits, compensation, and legal compliance.  The position proposes policies, procedures, and ordinances for consideration by the Tribal Council.  

    Minimum Requirements: 

    • Strong knowledge of tribal ordinances and federal and state employment laws in Connecticut and other jurisdictions 
    • Advanced working knowledge of human resource principles and practices
    • Strong communicator, effective listener, and ability to connect with varied individuals across the organization
    • Considerable negotiation and conflict resolution skills
    • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to analyze data, identify trends, and subsequently develop them into recommendations for strategic action
    • Ability to read and interpret laws, policies, procedures, and tribal ordinances
    • Ability to work independently on complex human resources issues, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines
    • Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel) required
    • Experience with HRIS and payroll systems 

    ~AND~

    • Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management or related field
    • Seven (7) years’ progressive experience in human resource management involving recruitment, employee benefits, compensation, and employee relations for an organization of at least 500 full-time employees

    ~OR~

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management or related field
    • Ten (10) years’ progressive experience in human resource management involving recruitment, employee benefits, compensation, and employee relations for an organization of at least 500 full-time employees

    ~AND~

    • Demonstrated ability to drive continuous process improvement in a HR environment 
    • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
    • HR certification (e.g., SPHR, PHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP)
