HVAC Mechanic performs maintenance and service repairs on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. Installs new units or replacement parts for existing units according to specifications and established safety guidelines. Being an HVAC Mechanic follows blueprints or engineering specifications to install units. Performs troubleshooting to identify the cause of problems. Additionally, HVAC Mechanic maintains and secures a spare parts inventory. Recommends purchasing maintenance equipment and supplies as required to improve processes and efficiencies. Typically requires an apprenticeship and/or completion of technical training. Requires a high school diploma. The regulations governing the location may require an HVAC Mechanical State License and EPA Section 608 Certification (CFC). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The HVAC Mechanic works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Job Description
Perform a variety of skilled tasks involved in the maintenance and repair of HVAC systems and equipment to ensure efficient and continuous operation. Maintain building and equipment records and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and procedures pertaining to the facilities operation. This position is essential during emergency situations and the incumbent is subject to being requested to report to work.
Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and a minimum of 3 years or 6,000 hours experience in at least one skilled area. Knowledge of refrigeration, air conditioning, and mechanical system repair. Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to work as part of a team and with occasional independent assignments, with minimal supervision and the ability to lift and carry 80 lbs. Experience and ability to operate a variety of power/hand tools and testing devices, possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and adherence to the requirements of the Office of Risk Management.
Preferred: Possession of EPA 608 Certification
