HVAC Mechanic performs maintenance and service repairs on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. Installs new units or replacement parts for existing units according to specifications and established safety guidelines. Being an HVAC Mechanic follows blueprints or engineering specifications to install units. Performs troubleshooting to identify the cause of problems. Additionally, HVAC Mechanic maintains and secures a spare parts inventory. Recommends purchasing maintenance equipment and supplies as required to improve processes and efficiencies. Typically requires an apprenticeship and/or completion of technical training. Requires a high school diploma. The regulations governing the location may require an HVAC Mechanical State License and EPA Section 608 Certification (CFC). Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The HVAC Mechanic works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Position Qualifications: | Minimum Qualifications: High School/GED Four years of prior successful work experience in the building trades or technical field; OR Two years post-secondary education in the building trades or technical field with two years of experience in heating and air conditioning repairs, maintenance, and/or installation Knowledge of electrical controls troubleshooting experience with or without blueprints and schematics. Certified EPA Refrigerant Usage Card within one year after hire. Have before hire and maintain after hire, a valid driver's license. A valid driver's license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned. Blueprint reading. Controls and electrical schematic reading. This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally. Ability to become proficient in the use of "AiM" computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology. Preferred Qualifications: Vocational/Technical training in building trades or technical field. Two years post-secondary education in the building trades WITH Three years of prior successful work experience in heating and air conditioning repairs, maintenance, and installation. Electrical controls troubleshooting experience with or without blueprints and schematics. Refrigeration troubleshooting experience on freezers and ultra-cold systems to -115 degrees. Familiar with pneumatic, electrical, and electronic control system on a wide variety of refrigeration systems, heating equipment, and air systems. Certified EPA Refrigerant Usage Card before hire. |
