Inspects facilities and work areas to prescribes corrective actions to reduce the health risks. Being an Industrial Hygienist provides advice on methods and procedures to reduce occupational health risks. Determines measures to avoid any recurrence of accidents. Additionally, Industrial Hygienist evaluates facilities to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and promotes maintenance of a sanitary working environment. Conducts training in environmental compliance and the handling of hazardous materials. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor/manager. The position participates in the state program for the control and prevention of occupational illness and disease by conducting inspections and investigations of potential health hazards in all general industry places of employment, including both the private and public sectors.
Work Coverage Area: Washtenaw, Lenawee, Wayne and Monroe counties.
Work Location: The IH works from a home office (that is, their home). However, this is a field position that requires the establishment of the “Official Workstation” for travel purposes in Washtenaw, Lenawee, Wayne and Monroe counties.
The Industrial Hygienist is issued a state vehicle, which must be parked overnight in a secure location in one of the following counties to which the position is assigned: Washtenaw, Lenawee, Wayne and Monroe counties.
Generally, hours of work: 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. Work may require early departure, evening work, or occasional weekends to accommodate customer requests.
