  • Job Summary

    The Health Information Management (HIM) Supervisor manages the day-to-day activities of the HIM Department. Responsible for supervising the HIM staff and workload to ensure that work is performed accurately and timely. Acts as a subject matter expert with staff to assist in resolving issues and enhancing processes. This includes maintenance of HIM records, and compliance with state and federal regulations.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Supervises staff on a day-to-day basis including coaching, motivating, training, interviewing, hiring and corrective actions.
    • Monitor employee productivity and work quality to ensure that projects are completed on time and within budget.
    • Create schedules for employees based on workloads and deadlines and communicating those schedules to employees.
    • Oversee the maintenance of medical records, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
    • Provides indirect supervision to the Coding Staff.
    • Produces productivity reports and oversees KPIs to ensure team is meeting productivity goals or surpassing them for quicker chart completion is performed timely and accurately. Proactively engages to address errors and or incomplete records.
    • Reviews and collaborates with the team to strategize and or recommend process improvements of procedures and practices for streamlining or automation, cost savings and operational improvements.
    • Provides guidance to staff members on issues such as safety procedures in the workplace or conflict resolution strategies.
    • Effectively handle a high degree of independent access to confidential patient information. Maintain strict confidentiality of such records and information. Comply with HIPAA regulations.
    • Support staff as needed due to workload and/or on PTO.
    • Plan, organize, and carry out tasks to meet goals and objectives set by supervisor.
    • Participate in the development and implementation of HIM policies and procedures.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Education Requirements

    • Minimum: High school diploma or GED

    • Preferred: Associate or bachelor’s degree in business or healthcare administration or other related field of study

    Experience Requirements

    • Minimum: Three (3) years of experience working in Health Information Management or supervisory experience in a medical office setting. Experience with EHRs and other health information technology.

    • Preferred: Five (5) years of experience working in Health Information Management with at least 1 year being in a supervisory position in a Healthcare setting. Experience supervising remote staff.
