The location of this role is the Hermosa Project site near Patagonia, Arizona
The Role
As the Information Management Lead, you will lead development of the Hermosa Digital Asset, which will serve as an enabler of our next generation mining operation. By capturing and organizing project-related data, such as engineering models, design drawings, 3D scans, and project plans, you will create a digital ecosystem that empowers our team to make informed decisions, drive innovation, and optimize project outcomes.
Your role will extend beyond information management. With the support of the Information Management Team, you will lead initiatives that leverage the power of our digital asset to simulate real-world scenarios, providing stakeholders with immersive experiences that engage, inform, and inspire. These simulations will unlock project and operating value, enabling us to identify opportunities, streamline processes, and minimize risks throughout the entire project lifecycle and into the eventual operation of the mine. By proactively addressing challenges and incorporating stakeholder feedback, you will be part of enabling higher delivery efficiency, maximizing resource utilization, and ensuring a sustainable future for the Hermosa project.
As our Information Management Lead, you will be at the forefront of virtual design and construction advancements in the mining industry. Your expertise in digital asset management, data analytics, and immersive technologies will be instrumental in driving our project's success. By embracing a modern and engaging approach, you will inspire our team, foster collaboration, and forge meaningful connections with stakeholders.
Individual Accountabilities:
- Safety Culture: Contribute to our safety culture through workplace interactions, hazard identification and visible field leadership.
- Evolve and execute the Hermosa Digital Project Delivery (DPD) strategy: Take ownership and champion the implementation of a comprehensive strategy for the Hermosa Digital Asset. This includes continuous improvement to the Information Management Plan, all associated standards, protocols, and workflows for data collection, storage, and retrieval to ensure seamless integration of project-related documentation.
- Lead the Information Services Team: Provide strong leadership and guidance to the Information Services Team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Set clear goals and expectations, empower team members, and ensure effective utilization of resources to achieve project objectives.
- Budget Management: Owning the Information Services budget and delivering to the endorsed plan.
- Manage the Hermosa Digital Asset: Oversee the development of the Hermosa Digital Asset. Ensure data integrity, quality, security, and compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations. Implement robust information governance practices to enable efficient and effective use of the digital asset.
- Manage the Digital Asset Platform (DAP): Owning the configuration, integration, administration and improvements to DAP systems. Coordinating technical support for project systems and establishing information flows between the various systems and various external suppliers.
- Define and manage interfaces with services providers: Collaborate with external service providers from across the integrated project team to define and implement digital and process integrations to streamline information exchange, enable progressive handover and improve data quality. All details will be captured in Digital Execution Plans that will be owned by each service provider and periodically reviewed by the Information Services Team.
- Audit digital asset model and simulation development: Accountable for conducting thorough audits of models and simulations throughout their development, ensuring compliance with standards, guidelines, and project requirements, and documenting findings and recommendations.
- Train, Coach and collaborate with cross-functional teams: Collaborate with project stakeholders, such as engineering, design, operations, and external vendors, to understand their information needs and provide effective solutions. Foster strong relationships and facilitate communication to ensure alignment with project goals and objectives. As required, provide training and/or coaching to support effective use of tools and practices.
- Identify digital initiatives: Identify opportunities to leverage emerging technologies and digital tools to enhance project delivery, data analytics capabilities, and stakeholder engagement.
- Enable immersive simulations and experiences: Work closely with stakeholders to develop and execute immersive simulations and experiences utilizing the Hermosa Digital Asset. This includes leveraging virtual reality, augmented reality, and other advanced technologies to enhance stakeholder engagement, improve decision-making processes, and de-risk subsequent project phases.
- Ensure effective project documentation management: Maintain robust systems and processes for project-related documentation, including version control, document management, and archiving. Establish best practices for document collaboration, review, and approval to streamline workflows and ensure accurate and up-to-date information.
- Support compliance with South32 Change Management processes.
- Stay abreast of industry trends: Keep up to date with advancements in information services, digital asset management, virtual design & construction, and other relevant technologies within the mining industry. Continuously evaluate and assess new tools, methodologies, and industry best practices to drive innovation and unlock value from the digital asset.
- Provide strategic recommendations: Proactively identify opportunities for improvement and provide strategic recommendations to enhance the overall effectiveness and efficiency of information services within the project. Stay attuned to the evolving needs of stakeholders and anticipate future requirements to drive continuous improvement.
- Monitor and report on key performance metrics: Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness and impact of the information services function. Provide reports and presentations to project leadership, highlighting achievements, challenges, and opportunities for optimization.
Qualifications, Skills, and Expertise:
- A bachelor's or master's degree in construction management, architecture, computer science, information technology, data management or engineering (or comparable industry experience and technical certifications);
- 5 years of experience providing implementation, training, and support in Digital Project Delivery (VDC, BIM, etc);
- Relevant certifications or specialized training in digital asset management, project management, or information systems would be advantageous;
- Valid driver’s license and competence to drive company vehicles.
- Expert knowledge of information management, information governance and recordkeeping frameworks, standards, tools and systems;
- Experience working with teams and interacting with customers;
- Experience working in construction, manufacturing, mining or other heavy industries desired;
- Strong understanding of project delivery processes;
- Previous success leading initiatives that involve behavioural change in a heavy-industry, cross-functional organization;
- Experience with leading design tools, specifically Hexagon and SDx is desired;
- Previous success managing complex information systems projects is also desired;
- Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of managing and motivating cross-functional teams;
- Proven track record of effectively working with and/or managing teams remotely.
- In-depth knowledge of information management, information governance and recordkeeping frameworks, standards, tools and systems;
- Visible field safety leadership and an ability to promote a safe work culture;
- Knowledge of construction and trade practices;
- Knowledge of project management methodologies and tools used to track cost, time and quality;
- Knowledge of the design development and detailed design process;
- Knowledge of management concepts and best practices;
- Strong and effective communication skills, both written and verbal;
- Adept at building strong relationships, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, and managing vendor relationships to ensure successful project delivery;
