JOB PURPOSE
Under limited supervision, plans, directs and supervises the implementation, integration, administration and utilization of technology within all facets of the District’s education system. Ensures a fast, reliable and secure technology infrastructure that meets the technology needs of the district. Provides direct supervision to all technology department staff. Sets priorities and directs district-wide technology support. Stays current on state-of-the-art technology solutions and makes recommendations for technology enhancements. Reports to the Superintendent.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Constantly seeking new and better technology solutions to improve instruction and support functions.
Provides professional leadership and technical expertise in planning, developing and implementing technology integration and support for the District.
Ensures department compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, laws and regulations, and standards of quality and safety.
Provides supervision and direction to the technology department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities according to district and department policies.
Assigns work, sets deadlines, and establishes expectations and staff. Selects and trains new employees; establishes and maintains a culture of excellence, acts on employee problems and recommends and administers employee discipline.
Coordinates all aspects of assigned projects and takes responsibility for completing projects on-time, to a high standard and within budget.
Plans, organizes, manages, assists with, and reviews the overall activities of the Technology Center.
Monitors projects and problems, balances assignments and priorities, and performs follow-up with school administrators.
Develops and directs the implementation of the District’s technology plan.
Develops and manages the department’s annual operating and capital budgets; approves and monitors expenditures and prepares related financial reports.
Researches, reviews and approves technology purchases to ensure compatibility with existing District policies and systems; prepares and manages contracts with vendors and service providers.
Directs the purchase, installation, support, networking, maintenance and repair of technological equipment and systems.
Prepares and/or processes budget documents, financial reports and analyses, technology plans, technical designs, instructional / training materials, grant applications, meeting agendas, schedules, performance evaluations, memos, correspondence, etc.
Seeks, secures and administers grant funds to support specific technology projects and programs.
Ensures local area networks, computers, printers and software systems are serving the needs of the District.
Supports District-wide database and electronic communication of data to all sites, as well as electronic download / upload of state mandated data; develops related communications materials and/or processes.
Manage the district’s participation in the federal ERATE program to obtain maximum federal funds for technology.
Develop, plan and manage the needs related to implementation and success of the district’s 1:1 computing initiative.
Provides for all aspects of technical requirements for all district and state online assessments.
Administration of the district’s security systems including the design, purchase, installation and support of video surveillance, entry access and visitor management systems.
Manages the district’s phone, paging, email, and other communications systems to ensure district needs are being met.
Ensures standardization of district hardware and software to maximize district funding and ensure efficiency in technical support.
Supports individual departments with technical services to meet the departmental operations and goals.
Supports technology-related activities of technology teacher leaders, elementary computer lab staff, business education teachers, and media specialists.
Oversees the telecommunications system and ensures it is meeting the needs of the District. Coordinates the development and management of the District’s website.
Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns and complaints regarding technology issues, policies and procedures and department services.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the Superintendent, subordinates, other District administrators and staff, school administrators and staff, Board of Trustees, State Department of Education personnel, various committees, government agencies, vendors / service providers, and the general public.
Represents the department and District at various meetings as appropriate.
Attends training, seminars and conferences, etc., as necessary to maintain and enhance job knowledge and skills.
Operates a variety of equipment such as computers, printers, network equipment, modems, peripherals, copier, calculator, telephone, typewriter, etc.; uses clerical, copier, computer supplies.
Teaches professional development workshops and leads related activities as appropriate.
Assists other departments in developing technology-related presentations and workshops.
Performs routine administrative/office tasks as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, copying and filing documents, answering the telephone, sending and receiving faxes, entering and retrieving computer data, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field supplemented by six to nine years of experience in computer technology management, including experience managing computer networks, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have significant supervisory experience and must possess a valid state driver’s license.
