Information Technology Director establishes, plans, and administers the overall policies and goals for the information technology department. Analyzes the needs of different departments and determines ways to meet business objectives by modifying existing or developing new information processing systems. Being an Information Technology Director manages the research and selection of IT equipment, applications, and supplies. Requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Information Technology Director typically reports to a CIO. The Information Technology Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     GENERAL PURPOSE

    Responsible for supporting the oversight and achieving defined goals for all District technology operations with a high focus on communication, collaboration, and customer service.  Primary functions include supporting the administration of district technology services; collaborates on the creation and oversight of operational procedures; implementation of ITIL/ITSM best practices; collaborates on budgetary decision making and monitoring; defining and achieving quality service goals; leading technology managers and personnel.

     

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    • Collaborate on the integration of technology into high quality instruction, blended learning and professional development providing students with engaging, personalized and authentic learning opportunities.
    • Collaborate with educational and operational leaders providing high quality support in the development and implementation of new learning opportunities.
    • Support the coordination of the development and implementation of the District's Technology meeting state and federal funding requirements.
    • Manage District technology vendor relationships in support of procurement of technology and technology related services following District policy and procedure.
    • Direct department operations; the maintenance of services and the implementation of new programs and/or processes providing services within established timeframes and in compliance with related requirements.
    • Facilitate meetings and oversee professional learning for information technology staff to support the ongoing growth of required customer service skills, operational governance, and technical skill sets.  
    • Manage the development of the district wide area and local area networks ensuring the efficient growth and development of productivity computing for students, teachers, and all District staff. 
    • Monitor budget allocations, expenditures, fund balances and related financial activities ensuring accurate allocations, revenues recorded, expenses are within budget limits and/or adherence to fiscal practices.
    • Lead and participate in a variety of meetings maintaining necessary staffing, enhancing productivity of staff, and ensuring necessary department/program efficiency.
    • Perform personnel administrative functions such as staff evaluations, quality assurance monitoring, budget review, purchasing approvals, knowledge management, and creation of required documentation.
    • Prepare a wide variety of reference, presentation, policy and administrative materials documenting activities, requests and issues; providing audit references, and/or meeting compliance.
    • Present information on a variety of topics related to administrative responsibilities providing general information, training others, implementing actions, etc.
    • Provide leadership and technical support designing, developing, and maintaining an efficient, unified, and fully integrated technology support team.
    • Research topics related to current and emerging technology developing new programs/services, ensuring program compliance with established requirements, securing general information and/or responding to requests.
    • Respond to issues involving staff, conflicts in policies and regulations, community concerns, parental requests that may result in some negative impact and/or liability if not appropriately addressed identifying the relevant issues and recommending or implementing a plan of action that will efficiently resolve the issue.
    • Review the development and execution of an enterprise-wide information security plan protecting the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the district’s network and data needs.
    • Supervise the support for; Application Support Services, Server Support Services, Networking Support Services, Help Desk Support Services, Technical Support Services, Telecommunication Support Services and Technology Project Management Services providing support for the District administration, building administration, and classroom technical services.
    • Perform other related duties, as assigned.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
    • Minimum of eight (8) years of job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.

    Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements

    • Certified Educational Technology Leader (CETL) and/or MBA, preferred.
    • ITIL Foundation or equivalent, preferred.
    • Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance, the results of which must be satisfactory to the District, required.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities                                                           

    • Knowledge of ITIL governance practices, IT service management principles, information and cyber security best practices, basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; review and interpret highly technical information, write technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues, draw conclusions and create action plans.
    • Knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include pertinent laws, codes, policies, and/or regulations; personnel processes; program planning and development; school budgeting, policies and audit procedures; concepts of grammar and punctuation; principles of governmental and fund accounting and budgeting.
    • Skill to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
    • Skill based competencies required to perform the functions of the job, including operating standard office equipment including using a variety of software applications; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records.
    • Ability to read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions.
    • Ability to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment.
    • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish District objectives.
    • Ability to work with others under a wide variety of circumstances; working with data utilizing defined but different processes; and utilize job-related equipment.
    • Ability to apply critical thinking/problem solving to improve work processes.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality; set priorities; meet deadlines and schedules; work with detailed information; and adapt to changing priorities.

    Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

    • Work environment is primarily inside, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate.
    • The work is light work that requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
    • Must possess the physical ability perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
