Information Technology Director establishes, plans, and administers the overall policies and goals for the information technology department. Analyzes the needs of different departments and determines ways to meet business objectives by modifying existing or developing new information processing systems. Being an Information Technology Director manages the research and selection of IT equipment, applications, and supplies. Requires a bachelor's degree. Additionally, Information Technology Director typically reports to a CIO. The Information Technology Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be an Information Technology Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     OVERVIEW:
    Information technology specialists are responsible for maintaining, processing, and troubleshooting military computer systems/operations.
     
    JOB DUTIES:
    • Maintenance of networks, hardware, and software.
    • Provide customer and network administration services.
    • Construct, edit, and test computer programs.

    REQUIREMENTS:
    Those who want to serve must first take a series of tests that helps you better understand your strengths and identify which Army jobs are best for you.
     
     Ages 17-34; 35-39 Requires a Waiver.
     
    TRAINING:
    Job training for an information technology specialist requires 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and 20 weeks of Advanced Individual Training with on-the-job instruction.
     
    Some of the skills you’ll learn are:
    • Use of computer consoles and peripheral equipment.
    • Computer systems concepts.
    • Planning, designing, and testing computer systems.

    HELPFUL SKILLS:
    • Interest in computer science.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Ability to communicate effectively.
    • Experience in the installation of computers.

     REQUIRED ASVAB SCORE(S)Skilled Technical (ST):
    95.
