Institutional Research Director directs and oversees institutional research and studies for a university/college.     Brief Job Description

    The Director of Research plays a crucial leadership role, overseeing the supervision, evaluation, and performance management of a diverse team of research personnel, including Entomologists, Biologists, Technicians, and Interns. This position is responsible for spearheading the design, execution, and analysis of surveillance activities and research programs, ensuring that data collection and analyses adhere to high standards. The Director of Research evaluates research outcomes, communicates key findings to stakeholders, and keeps the executive team updated on advancements in mosquito control techniques and methodologies. Additionally, this role is pivotal in the development of strategic partnerships and collaborative projects across industry, academia, and government sectors. The position oversees the department's budgeting and goal setting and disseminates research findings through scientific publications and presentations.

    While the successful candidate will have an office in the Administration building, they will frequently work in the field. Fieldwork includes but is not limited to schools, businesses, governmental organizations, media outlets, in District aircraft, laboratory, mosquito habitat, professional and political gatherings, conferences, symposia, and more.

    The Person We Are Looking for Will

    • Knowledge of mosquito taxonomy and biology and all aspects of mosquito control
    • Ability to posit relevant hypotheses and utilize appropriate research methods to gain accurate, relevant and actionable data
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Demonstrated computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft 365, database design and management and digital presentation tools
    • Ability to communicate effectively to large audiences as well as a variety of news media (television, radio, newspaper)
    • Help to maintain a favorable public image for the organization through a wide variety of interactions with citizens
    • General mechanical ability and operating knowledge of basic handheld and power operated tools (wrenches, wire cutters, heat gun, soldering iron, voltmeter, flowmeter)
    • Must be able to read, speak and write in English, including technical and scientific jargon

    What We Would Like You to Have

    • Master’s degree in entomology or related science from an accredited college or university; Ph.D. degree preferred
    • Five years of mosquito control experience preferred (Ph.D. may supplement experience)
    • Demonstrated management experience required
    • Must obtain Florida Public Health Pest Control license within 6 months of employment
    • Class “E” Florida Driver’s License; clean driving record

    This full-time, Exempt position offers a salary that is commensurate with experience and typically includes an annual performance review.
