The Instructional Designer provides multi-tiered support for Luther College courses by collaborating with faculty and staff to develop, disseminate, implement, and assess effective instructional materials at Luther College, which foster student engagement and promote inclusive teaching and learning. This is a part time position with a 0.5 FTE
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Instructional Designer will partner with faculty and other key Luther College subject matter experts to assist in creating dynamic, interactive college credit courses for a variety of modalities including face-to-face, online, and hybrid courses. The Instructional Designer will support the faculty development efforts of the Assistant Director of CELT and the Dean of Student Success. The Instructional Designer will collaborate with and provide strategic direction to the Instructional Technologist in ITS.
Specific Responsibilities of the Instructional Designer Include:
- Work closely with faculty and subject matter experts to design, develop, and evaluate instructional materials to support face to face, online, and hybrid courses, both on campus and in Rochester, MN.
- In collaboration with the Assistant Director of CELT, design and facilitate training for faculty in instructional pedagogy.
- Guide strategic use of LMS/Moodle.
- In collaboration with Disability Services staff and the Assistant Director of CELT, design, develop and train faculty and subject matter experts on course accessibility.
- Promote academic excellence by researching and training faculty and subject matter experts on relevant instructional trends.
- Collaborate with ITS staff via the Instruction Technologist to share improvements and trends in instructional technology.
- Function as a key member in relevant working teams, including the Instructional Technology Team and the KATIE/Moodie Support Team.
- Consult regarding classroom technology infrastructure including instructional labs, classroom technologies, academic software, and course management software, when appropriate.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS:
- Bachelor's degree in related field with relevant experience required. Master's degree or significant progress toward a master's degree in higher education, instructional design, or related field, preferred.
- Experience with teaching technologies and digital learning tools.
- Moodie, WordPress, Qualtrics, and VoiceThread experience preferred.
- Knowledge of digital pedagogies and learning spaces preferred.
- Knowledge of backwards design, active learning, and other relevant pedagogical initiatives.
- Detail-oriented with effective communication skills.
- Ability to assume responsibility, deal effectively with problems and exercise independent judgment when making decisions.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends of the college.
