Instructional Technology Specialist jobs in Queens Village, NY

The New York Hall of Science (NYSCI) is seeking a consultant with a background in designing and implementing culturally responsive educational experiences for youth in informal settings utilizing digital tools or devices (i.e arduinos, Raspberry Pi, etc). The Education Technology Specialist will support the development of a 30 hour camp curriculum that enables middle school youth to explore how to use data science to identify and address community related issues using an open source hardware device called GoGo Board. The consultant will also assist in the co-facilitation of the curriculum activities with middle school youth in a week-long camp at the New York Hall of Science.

• Actively participate in project meetings and online communications with the NYSCI team throughout each month to review project goals, report out on progress, plan logistics and provide feedback on aligning content/project goals with youth engagement best practices.

• Co-develop a culturally responsive curriculum for middle school aged students that covers 5-days (up to 30 hours) worth of activities by Friday April 5th 2024.

• Co-facilitate the written camp curriculum at NYSCI during the week April 22nd-26th 2024 including assisting in the setup and breakdown of camp materials.

• At the beginning of each camp day, co-lead the training of Explainers (high school or college student staff) to ensure they are prepared to support the co-facilitation of specific activities throughout the day.

• At the end of each camp day, debrief with Explainers to reflect on key learnings and observations.

• Complete a post reflection tool at the end of each camp day.

• Based on reflections and feedback collected during the camp, co-modify the camp curriculum activities in alignment with NYSCI’s curriculum template during the months May-June 2024.

• Gogo Board Project Onboarding and Tool Training- November 2023 (virtually).

• Camp Goals & Content Outline Due early December 2023

• Camp Curriculum Development & Iteration- December 2023- March 2024

• Gogo Board Camp Implementation at NYSCI- April 22nd-26th 2024 (Student schedule 9:00-3:00pm; Facilitator schedule 8:00-4:00pm)

• Curriculum Modifications and Final Draft May-June 2024

Consultant is required to commit to meeting virtually three times a month for a 1-hour meeting during the months of December 2023-June 2024 which will be scheduled between M-F, 9am-5pm based on both parties availability and completing all monthly assignmentsConsultant will also need to attend designated in person meetings as needed in addition to co-facilitating in person camp April 22-26th.

Consultant will receive $4,000 per month upon completion of monthly deliverables and submission of a monthly invoice. The total for the full work scope over the course of 7 months is $28,000.
