    The Department of Molecular Biology and Microbiology has the long-term goal of strengthening and expanding the existing research program targeted at understanding the regulation of HIV transcription, molecular mechanisms underlying HIV reservoir formation and mechanisms of HIV persistence.We are guided by Case Western Reserve University's vision which values excellence by advancing diversity through inclusive thinking, mindful learning and transformative dialogue. We recognize the need to increase representation in science, and we are interested in recruiting minorities to Case.As a Senior Instructor the successful candidate will prepare manuscripts and contribute preliminary data, background and significance and experimental design for grant proposals, and write, submit, and serve as Principal Investigator on grants and manuscripts.We encourage applications from highly qualified individuals with advanced experimental skills in molecular virology. Demonstrated experience in the studies of HIV latency and expertise in the use of primary cell models, cell imaging, ChIP assays, and proteomic analysis will be preferred.

    Essential Functions

    As a faculty member of the Department of Molecular Biology and Microbiology, the Senior Instructor will be required to demonstrate scholarship by the publications of manuscripts in leading journals in their field. They will be expected to interact productively with a nationally ranked team of basic and clinical scientists interested in the overall areas of HIV molecular virology and other viral infectious diseases.In addition, the Senior Instructor is also required to demonstrate national recognition of their work by being active in national meetings and in the academic society most closely aligned with their area of research. In addition to these activities, they will be required to secure funding for their position that will cover at least 50% of their salary by the completion of the third year of employment. Upon achieving this, the terms of their employment will be revisited, and they will be promoted to Assistant Professor, on the tenure track.

    The Senior Instructor faculty member will continue to demonstrate an expert knowledge of their academic field and a commitment to continuing development of this competence and make satisfactory contributions to at least two of the three following: (i) teaching; (ii) a continuing program of research, and (iii) a willingness to assume a fair share of university administrative and service tasks. The Senior Instructor will divide their effort between research (80%), teaching (15%), and service (5%) for the first 5 years, which will support diversity and inclusion. The proportions of these may vary from year to year depending on, among other things, the needs of the Department and the School.

    Qualifications

    Education: PhD or MD degree in biology, chemistry or a related field

    Experience:At least 5 years of postdoctoral training and have demonstrated a capacity for independent research and exhibit a high likelihood of attracting Federal funding. Experience in the biochemistry of transcription, molecular virology and/or gene expression in mammalian cells is essential.In addition, this project will require advanced experimental skills in HIV molecular virology including the use of primary cell models, cell imaging, ChIP assays, and proteomic analysis.
