Instructor - Civil Engineering teaches courses in the discipline area of civil engineering. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - Civil Engineering provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Civil Engineering typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research.     Who we are:
    Merrimack College's School of Engineering and Computational Sciences is a hub of innovation and excellence in engineering and computational disciplines. We currently offer ABET-accredited civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering undergraduate programs. Furthermore, we have computer engineering, computer science, and data science programs. Our commitment to providing cutting-edge education is reflected in the new programs we launch in the coming years. In the academic year 2024-25, we will introduce construction management, information technology, and information systems programs, followed by a program in electromechanical engineering in 2025-26.


    Our student body comprises approximately 500 undergraduate students, all receiving a rigorous education that prepares them for success in their chosen fields. In addition to our undergraduate offerings, we have graduate programs in computer science, data science, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering management, and product management. These programs are experiencing significant growth, serve around 200 graduate students, and are designed to provide advanced knowledge and skills in high demand in today’s job market. Moreover, we are excited to announce the launch of our MS in information technology in the academic year 2024-25 and an MS program in cybersecurity in 2025-26.

    Primary Responsibilities:
    • Lead and contribute to collaborative and independent research projects.
    • Help develop research clusters with the potential to build labs or research centers.
    • Seek external funding to support research through grant applications and collaborations with industry partners.
    • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and other relevant platforms.
    • Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses.
    • Supervise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students in their academic and research pursuits.
    • Establish and maintain relationships with industry partners, government agencies, and other research institutions.
    • Participate in Department and School committees and contribute to the governance and development of the institution.
    • Engage in outreach activities to promote the School and the College to the broader community.
    • Contribute to developing and implementing strategies to achieve the school’s and College's goals and objectives.

    Qualifications
    • Ph.D. in civil, electrical, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
    • A demonstrated track record of research excellence, commensurate with career stage.
    • Experience developing and leading extramurally funded research projects. Early-career candidates with evidence of potential to develop these skills are also encouraged to apply.
    • Experience in, or potential for, teaching at the undergraduate or graduate levels.
    • Professional engineering experience in industry or government is preferred.
    • For civil engineers, professional registration as an engineer, or eligibility for registration, is preferred but optional.
    • A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and external partners.
    • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
    • Experience in, or potential for, supervising and mentoring students, postdoctoral researchers, or staff.
    • A commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment for students, faculty, and staff.
