    EFFECTIVE DATE: Position will Remain Open until Filled

    EMPLOYMENT STATUS:  Part-Time 

    EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION:  Non-Exempt

                                 

    PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB:  A High School Research Assistant will support in established research projects within the College of Agriculture, Community, and Sciences.

     

     

    SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: Under the supervision of the Associate Research Director's research team, the High School Research Intern will contribute to established research projects. The scope of work is focused on marketing of various agricultural products such as vegetables, fruits, and seafood.

     

     

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

    1. To assist with research activities by completing assigned tasks
    2. Tasks assigned to high school students will be incommensurate with their knowledge and experience
    3. Assist with data collection, taking of surveys, and data recording

     

     

    OTHER DUTIES:

    Duties include assembling aquaculture systems, maintaining those systems, handling and feeding animals, harvesting animals, some laborious tasks such as carrying heavy objects, and other duties as assigned

      

     

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    1. Student must a minimum GPA of 2.75 out of 4.0 scale
    2. Student must be able to give a block of time of at least two hours twice a week
    3. Student must be able to provide own transportation to location
    4. Interest in agriculture, fish farming, and sales of food products

     

     

    Licensing and Certifications            None

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:     

    1. Computer literacy
    2. Effective communication skills
    3. Ability to work cooperatively in a team effort is required
    4. Initiative, resourcefulness, punctuality, and ability to work independently are essential

     

     

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY 

     

    • This position has no supervisory responsibilities. 

     

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

                

    • May involve some physical exertion, the work environment requires attention to basic safety protocols
