  • JOB TITLE: Educational/ABA Counselor Intern REPORTS TO: Behavior Clinician JOB SUMMARY: Educational/ABA Counselor Intern’s primary job responsibility is to carry out behavior intervention & curriculum programs for students with autism spectrum disorder and other disabilities, under the direct supervision and guidance of the Behavior Analyst. This is available to students interested in working while learning valuable and transferable skill sets in the field of ABA and Special Education. REQUIREMENTS: 1. Must have completed sophomore year of related Bachelor’s Degree Program and must maintain continuous enrollment towards the completion of the program. ****Related Degrees include- • Applied Behavior Analysis • Psychology • Social Work • Human Services • Sociology • Education • Communication Disorders • Special Education 2. Must be able to commit to between 18 to 29 hours per week, for a minimum of 1 semester, including summer only (continuation of position will be reevaluated after each semester). ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Overall Counselor Learning Responsibilities- Interns are responsible for attending- 1. Team Meetings (as scheduled). 2. One on one meetings with Behavior Analyst a minimum of bi-weekly. 3. Attend full orientation and ongoing staff training as scheduled. 4. Attend Special Education training and ABA training as scheduled. 5. Accept feedback given and implement in practice with students. Responsibilities to Students: 1. Work with students ages 3-22 with autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities. 2. Provide highly individualized, one-to-one Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy to students per the daily schedule and according to the protocols established by the Behavior Analyst. 3. Receive training on and run identified student’s academic programs, daily living skills, vocational skills and individualized behavior plans. 4. Consistently collect accurate data for academic programs, daily living skills, vocational skills and behavior. 5. Attend community outings with students when necessary according to the objectives outlined in each specific student’s plan. 6. Ensure the safety and well-being of all students by accurately implementing behavior plans and ensuring the safe and proper usage of CALM strategies as needed. Responsibilities to the School 1. Maintain clean and safe environment for students throughout the school and in student areas throughout the day by ensuring student desks and drawers are organized, communicating immediately about damages, spills, or other safety concerns. Complete all cleanliness documentation as required by supervisor in 100% of opportunities. 2. Ensure effective communication between home and school with appropriate in person parent communication and home note documentation. 3. Demonstrate fluency with home note software (Tadpoles) by entering at least one note and one picture for each student worked with during the day and entering all student behavior data as required by direct supervisor in 90-100% of opportunities. 4. Maintain all HJEC technological devices (e.g., iPads, Laptops, etc) by storing in designated locations (i.e., iPad charging box, locker) in 100% of opportunities. 5. Maintain professionalism as demonstrated by attending work/meetings on time, maintaining a positive attitude and refraining from gossiping or complaining and by interacting with students, coworkers and parents in a professional manner and receiving/incorporating feedback in a positive manner. 6. Present an appearance which is appropriate to the educational process by following dress code policy. 7. Subscribe to and uphold company policies, procedures and ethics. 8. Other duties as required or directed by supervisors or directors. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: 1. Be punctual and prepared to work shifts as scheduled. 2. Have at least three references that will attest to interpersonal skills, energy, work ethic, commitment to providing optimal education to children with autism, a love for children in general, their ability to work on a team, leadership skills, integrity, ability to accept and learn from feedback and skill in ABA. 3. Have the ability to physically perform all job duties, including carrying students up to 60 pounds, keeping students safe and in close proximity at all times, according to CALM protocol. This includes passing initial CALM training. 4. Must pass a background and CORI check. 5. Ability to interpret the evaluation data and write a comprehensive report as required. 6. Experience using computers and an aptitude to learn computer applications. 7. Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate respectfully and compassionately to child and their family. 8. Applicants are required to be able to physically perform all job duties, including carrying students up to 60 pounds, keeping students safe and in close proximity at all times, particularly on outings and safely providing physical behavior management practices to students in excess of 100 pounds up to 200 pounds when necessary. Must be able to lift up to sixty (60) pounds occasionally, and/or up to thirty (30) to sixty (60) pounds frequently, and/or up to ten (10) pounds constantly. Rarely must be able of lift over ninety (90) pounds. 2. Must have close visual acuity to perform frequent activities such as: distinguishing colors, preparing and analyzing data and figures, visually inspecting and measuring and assembling at distance close to the eye. Must be able to hear constantly, read, write and talk frequently. 3. Must be able to frequently stand, sit, walk, climb stairs, bend, squat and reach. Rarely must be able to push/pull, climb a ladder and crawl.
