Instructor - Geological Sciences teaches courses in the discipline area of geology and earth sciences. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - Geological Sciences provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Geological Sciences typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research.     Responsibilities

    Teaching Workload

    Faculty will be assigned 5 work units per academic quarter.

    Teaching Effectiveness: Professionalism, Use of Technology, and Content Expertise

    Dynamic, Active Classroom

    • Use of effective teaching strategies and multiple teaching techniques; teaching and modeling appropriate level learning skills and creating an environment conducive to
    • Creating high levels of student engagement through activities, community building, and student-centered learning including the use of live classroom tools to hold synchronous learning sessions with students
    • Clarity, relevance, and connection of class session objectives to course performance
    • Organized classroom and efficient use of class

    Subject Matter Expertise

    • Demonstrate mastery and ability to articulate and relate to
    • Play an integral role in the development and implementation of curriculum and assessment for their area of

    Student and University Support and Professionalism

    • Faculty are responsible for creating a classroom presence in support of students in collaboration with their Dean
    • Student support and outreach that supports the success of students is accomplished through faculty availability to students in all courses through synchronous or asynchronous communication and meetings to help students achieve the learning objectives for their course(s).
    • Faculty will attend events, programmatic meetings, and committee work as agreed upon and or designated by the Dean.
    • Appropriate behavior, language, professional communication, demeanor and dress will be exhibited at all times.

    Reporting Relationships

    The Instructor reports to Academic Dean or Dean of Nursing for Nursing Faculty. This role has no direct reports.

    Requirements 

    • Teaching experience (Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the field of study)
    • Self-motivated, flexible, and able to work in a team environment with minimal supervision
    • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with students, leadership, and
    • Excellent written communication and strong verbal communication skills in the English
    • Faculty will need regular access to a computer with the following system requirements
    • Windows XP or greater
    • Microsoft Office 2010
    • An internet connection
    • A Bachelor’s degree required and a Master’s degree may be required based upon program specialization. Rasmussen University follows the requirements set by the Department of Education, accrediting agencies, and the states in which the campuses operate.
    • Must be able to provide professional licenses/certifications required for specialized schools (Health Sciences, Nursing) before teaching. License must be active and unencumbered.
    • Clinical faculty must adhere to Rasmussen University’s policy on faculty immunizations and provide proper documentation.
    • Must be able to provide professional licenses/certifications and official transcripts for each degree earned from an accredited institution before teaching.

    Faculty must complete a minimum of 20 Rasmussen Education Units (REUs) between the combined areas of Teaching Development and Development in Discipline on an annual basis as described in the faculty handbook.
